Boring, desolate, and founded/run by an insane cult. Obvious HS, possibly among the worst in the union. It will be a true travesty if it is filled in green while the great state of New Jersey was marked in red.

Yeah, we love you too, Snowstalker.

HS. They're responsible for giving Democrats one of the most embarrassing legislative delegations ever and have politicians and even Utahns acting like children over same-sex marriage. Not to mention the Mormons which Lawrence O'Donnell describes best as the racist, sexist cult they used to be.

Not really, O'Donnell is an awful liar and loves to misinterpet Mormonism to fit his all-consuming hatred of us. Even the other MSNBC pundits think he goes too far.

And Utah is now about half and half in favor of marriage equality anyway (even 1/3 of Mormons).

Should probably point out that the question in that poll could be interpreted whether or not the state should comply with the court's decision, rather than actual support.

But still, Utah's attitude towards gay marriage is improving, especially among Mormons, even if slowly.

Hilariously, according to two recent polls, support for gay marriage in Utah is actually slightly higher than Wyoming. You know, the supposedly "libertarian" state, which is now to the right of Utah on gay marriage.

Hey, I live here, and I wouldn't want to live in most of it. Basically, most non-Mormons probably don't want to take one step outside Salt Lake County, and I don't blame them. The LDS culture here can be stifling. I'm a bit of a hipster socialist Mormon, so I don't want to go outside SLCO either.

Actually, it technically doesn't have any "dry counties". It just has dumb restrictions on alcohol (like bars/restaurants being required to mix drinks behind a wall/door so that kids don't see it).

Also, if you don't like Mormons, you'll love Salt Lake City.

SLC isn't bad but still strikes me as dull and featureless to the real cities we have in the East.

Dry counties are actually illegal in Utah. Strictest alcohol laws in the country otherwise though.

Gays are perfectly capable of being as virulently bigoted as everyone in society.

This is a pretty close call.  Obvious negatives, but I vote FS because of Salt Lake City, Park City, and SLValleyMan.

i remember reading they were actually trying to loosen up on those ridiculous ordinances just because it was killing tourism. not sure on the particulars though. what's actually been going on there?

There's actually a lot more to like about Utah than one might think- great scenery, well-educated, heavily urban (and growing in a smart way, actually), and of course that "give homeless people apartments" initiative that got some press recently.  It's not just lolmormonland in the way that Eastern Idaho is.

If I wasn't still bitter about New Jersey's result, I might have even given it an FS vote. Tongue

Look up "Zion Curtain", and you'll have more than enough to get outraged by.
