Boring, desolate, and founded/run by an insane cult. Obvious HS, possibly among the worst in the union. It will be a true travesty if it is filled in green while the great state of New Jersey was marked in red.

If Arizona couldn't get a majority FS vote, I doubt a state that voted >70% Romney and is run entirely by Mormons will do much better.  Don't let the early numbers frighten you. Tongue

And I assume you have never been to Utah...

Utah is the most beautiful place I have lived. The LDS church can be somewhat cliquey, but overall it is full of friendly people and a great place to raise a family. I'm sure our friends on the left would find plenty of fun things to do in SLC, plus we have the whole gay marriage thing, along with the commitment to ending homelessness.. Tongue Massive Freedom State. It seems the only reason so many will likely vote HS is due to it's politics, but there is much more to a state than that.

Not personally a fan of Mormonism, but Salt Lake and its landscape alone makes it a FS.

Every state has at least some postcard-worthy landscapes except a couple in the Great Plains. That's not what I'm voting based off of

When you're in the SLC region, any direction you look could be a post card picture. One must be pretty ignorant if they completely ignore the beauty of Utah.

Believe it or not, I actually have kind of a fondness for it because of (surprise surprise) Ingress. During Operation Minotaur us in Minneapolis were the core site but we were partnered with seven other cities as "remote sites", SLC being one. I was the liaison to establish contact with the SLC Resistance and served as the communications guy between them and the Twin Cities and am a member of their restricted communities still. SLC is not only a livable area (something other empty western states lack, as well as Mississippi, Alabama and Oklahoma) it's also a good Resistance stronghold, though fittingly all Mormons seem to pick Enlightened and they dominate the Provo area, resulting in kind of a hard fought standstill in turf wars.

But as a whole...yeah HS.

HS. They're responsible for giving Democrats one of the most embarrassing legislative delegations ever and have politicians and even Utahns acting like children over same-sex marriage. Not to mention the Mormons which Lawrence O'Donnell describes best as the racist, sexist cult they used to be.

What?

New Jersey is a great state.  Not quite as great as its immediate neighbors, which gives it a bit of an undeserved image problem, but better than 90% of the states in the Union.  Trufax.

Freedom State. It's beautiful, unique, and I have a lot of friends that live there (or will live there soon). It also has a history that I find more more interesting than that of other states.

Yeah, there's literally nothing better about Utah than Texas, unless you're really into Mormons or something ridiculous.

Salt Lake City is a larger percentage of Utah than Austin is of Texas, so a greater portion of Utah is livable. Also Sundance.

It's actually not full of white people, especially considering the hugely under-reported Latino population.  In some places in Utah, white people are actually close to being the minority and probably will be by the time the next census rolls around.

Freedom State, of course.

First, despite it's reputation, it still has some liberal enclaves that you people will find tolerable (SLC, Park City, some of the little hippie communites by the national parks.)

Plus, it has some of the most beautiful natural scenery of any state in the country. In addition to everything Gass posted, there are several prime ski resorts and hiking trails right within reach of the state's largest metro area.

Look at some of these places:

As for the SSM thing, while it's certainly no picnic here, 1) there are places in Utah where it's "okay to be gay" (SLC itself ironically has a pretty large gay population), and 2) Contrary to what some people say, there are worse places to be. Believe me.

So overall, despite its flaws, I am happy to live here.

(And also, it makes no sense to vote HS for Utah when Idaho got a FS rating).
