No, "Same Love" is a horrible song. "Thrift Shop" is good though.

I feel like most of his songs are just like someone reading their freshman year English class essay with some beats in the background.

Yeah, his lyrics are really mediocre (especially in that horrible "Same Love") and his flow is nothing special either.

I think Ryan Lewis is a great producer though.

Fun fact: I quite literally assumed the "30 gay couples to be married during performance of Same Love" article I saw to be from The Onion.

A lot of good people were nominated, but I disagree with pretty much every choice as to who won.

Joke awards, partly because Macklemore needs to stop, but not entirely since they've been a joke for ages now.

The first time I heard 'Same Love', I thought that it was some sort of parody or in some way tongue-in-cheek along the lines of 'Thrift Shop', only really mean-spirited. I'm honestly not sure whether or not I'm glad that that's not the case.

Since Puff Daddy and Eminem account for like 30% of the Grammy Awards for Best Rap album, quality isn't really the metric they use to decide this award.

True. The love of Eminem (who is clearly sh**tty) and now Macklemore shows the Grammy's racism, especially against an outspoken black man like Kanye.

Oh my God I'd entirely forgotten that Yeezus came out this year. I don't even follow or listen to rap much and even I can tell that valuing [Inks]ing Macklemore over that is a travesty.

At this point I'd give them as much credibility as the MTV VMAs and Teen Choice Awards.

Same Love is awful and that performance was self-congratulatory masturbation. I can't imagine what sort of person would let their wedding be a prop for the recording industry to show how progressive they are.

This times x1000. Macklemore's shameless pandering (plus instagramming his text to Kendrick) is horrendously embarrassing. I'm glad hip hop has some douchey white guy with terrible flow and worse lyrics to tell everyone about gay rights.
Okay I am a staunch Macklemore hater, I think he is garbage, but I don't have a problem with the kendrick text. Him and Kendrick are good friends (in the video for Collard Greens, its just Kendrick, Q and Macklemore chillin), and I thjnk we all know Kendricks album was better. Macklemore knows he didn't deserve it over K dot.

The issue isn't the text to Kendrick, it's the humblebragging from him posting it to Instagram.

We live in a social media era. It doesn't excuse bad music but I think its enough to excuse bad instagrams.

The Grammys are a joke (and racist of course). When put like that, it does look really bad. But Puff won once, with a great album and the main opposition would have been Life Afte Death, which Puff was all over. And the times Eminem won, the other nominees were pretty weak. You can only win against the other nominees. The biggest travesty is that Raekwon didn't win or even get nominated for the first rap album Grammy with Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.

To be fair, I mostly listen to underground hip-hop and Golden age of hip-hop artists.  So, maybe I just don't like mainstream hip-hop.  I suppose you can't give the Grammy to an album that doesn't sell very well.

I think we may have similar taste. Tongue Do you agree about OB4CL? And as surprising as it may be, when Puffy won he was outsold by Biggie and Wu Tang Clan!

I love that album.

As far as Puff Daddy goes, I find his music has aged horribly, but maybe that's just me.  I'm not that in touch with hip-hop anyway.  I basically go to Rock the Bells every year and just listen to the lineup from there.

I never watch the Grammys or the SOTU cause neither have ever struck me as relevant to what's going on.  Having said that, I did like the Carole King/Sarah Bareilles and Lindsay Buckinham/NIN performances.

Nah, Chaos and Creation and Memory Almost Full were two of the best albums of his post-Beatles career.
