They're a complete joke, even worse than the Oscars and the Emmys. They're basically about on par with the MTV VMAs at this point. See how Taylor Swift and Katy Perry keep getting nominations, all the misogynistic garbage rap that actually gets nominated now, or the facts that "We Are Young" won best song last year and "Sexy and I Know It" actually got nominated for anything.

I basically agree.  Music is really personal and it's difficult to evaluate anyway.  But, when you add in the business and political aspects it's just a joke.  It's anti-art that celebrates mediocrity, commercialism and compromising yourself in fundamental ways.  Award shows are a marketing event for entertainment.  It isn't a critical evaluation of music or cinema.  I think they need to have some of that facade though, in order to keep people interested.

But, I think they should just have the record companies/artists bid for the awards and give the money to charity.  They could also take "best" out of their award titles to make it less insulting.

Could be better... but it could be a lot worse (Teen Choice Awards, Kids Choice Awards, anything that involves Seth McFarlane presenting).
