The totalitarian Zionazis are just oppressing the innocent and peace-loving Palestinians, of course.

You reap what you sow. No one should be surprised by this, seeing as these are teens who have spent their entire lives in the world's largest outdoor prison.

You reap what you sow. Nasty ol' Western "foreign policy" simply forced poor ol' al-Qaeda to perpetrate 9/11, Bali 2002, Madrid 2004, London 2005, und so weiter. No one should be surprised. In fact we should all welcome it as a pressure valve.

Now Hamas are simply forced to train up suicide bombers. Serve Israel right for defending themselves against Islamists who try to drive them into the sea.

How about growing up?

Life under the death cult that is Hamas. The PA, at least, seems to view its people as human beings rather than suicide bombs in waiting. They're corrupt, but they have some basic humanity.

Generally speaking, the only people who sow and reap are the ordinary people.

Israel is not Lord Voldemort - they cannot cast the Imperius curse on these people. They have a choice on how to respond and it's a pity they keep choosing the wrong response.

How would you respond to a strip of land run by an insane death cult that trains its citizens to commit mass murder-suicide and lobs rockets at Israeli civilians?

The important thing I got out of this thread is that's Snowstalker's apparently entered some kind of bizarre right-wing Israel-supporting phase.

In fairness, he's had an Islamophobia thing going for as long as a few months now.

There's plenty to dislike about Israel (Netanyahu's an unambiguous dick, the obviously illegal West Bank settlements, the probably disproportionate response to attacks), but unlike many of my fellow leftists I see absolutely no reason why the Palestinians are more deserving of sympathy; it's not like it would be a liberal democracy that tolerates gays like Israel is if/when the occupation ends. Peace will only come from rejecting the ultrareligious, bloodthirsty reactionaries on both sides, Hamas included.

Basically this; if the PA cleans up their act a bit and gets serious about being an effective government, Hamas should go away relatively quickly.

Then Hamas will be around for the foreseeable future.

If you read my post, you'd see I was referring to Hamas' actions in response to Israel, not vice-versa.

Ugh...and this is why some of my older aunts and uncles wistfully lament about how even if an independent Palestine happened in their lifetimes they'd never want to live in it because it would be so "uncivilized."

Of course, Hamas exists in part because there is a vacuum that allows it to. Who else would you like the people of Gaza to vote for?

You have Fatah, which functions as a vehicle for wealthy, politically well-connected Palestinians to have foreign money flow to their businesses and into the pockets of Fatah legislators. They have no real gameplan for what they would do with an independent state or how it would be run.

You have the PFLP, DFLP and the other Leftist parties that are stuck in a Cold War time warp and are pushing a secular, Marxist version of Pan-Arabism. Historically, those parties never had broad support among "ordinary" Palestinians to begin with; they were populated with a handful of intellectuals, champagne socialists and of course plenty of European and Japanese college students who wanted to piss off their parents by wearing Che Guevara t-shirts and helping Carlos the Jackal hijack commercial airliners (watch the film The Baader-Meinhof Complex for context).

Hamas, in a perverse, often violent, way, fulfills those people's needs in the way that the Tea Party does for certain sections of Americans. It tells them they and their values are important and that they're standing up for their "faith, family and freedom" (the Middle Eastern Islamic equivalent, that is) and against the secular, greedy bureaucrats in the West Bank who are so out of touch with them.

Whoever doesn't create camps to train teenage boys to commit murder-suicide and doesn't want to murder every Jew in the Levant?

This is by far your weirdest phase yet, Snowstalker. I suppose when you start talking about people "worshipping a pedophile" or whatever it's inevitable but still...

Phase? I've always had a "pox on both houses" mentality in regards to this issue, but get forced against whatever side seems to be stronger on Atlas at the time/in the particular topic.

Nobody's forcing you to do anything. This is an active choice you're making.
