With the referendum passing by the barest of margins, Prime Minister William Findley could find yet more cheer for his increasing number of accomplishments. Even though it had been only one year since the referendum, Findley decided to dissolve Parliament for an election to take place at the same time as the first Presidential race. With his last act as King, George II authorized the dissolution and announced that he would be a candidate for President in the now Parliamentary Republic. His supporters felt that he had been unjustly deposed and he ran on his record as a Washington and as someone who had taken his loss in the referendum gracefully rather than declare Findley and all others who supported the referendum traitors to the Realm. Custis is the only candidate from the South.

Also running is DeWitt Clinton. Not a Representative, Clinton is Governor of New York and is emphasizing that since the President is a figurehead, the people should choose the most impressive figure. Clinton is identified closely with Liberty and is likely Findley's preferred choice.

John Quincy Adams, rather than run for a seat in the House to replace his retiring father, has decided to throw his hat in to attempt to become President. Adams is a Federalist and is emphasizing that he will be a moderate between the left wing Clinton and the right wing Custis.

In the Parliamentary election, the sizable Liberty majority looks to make gains. They are once again running on Findley's stellar record as Prime Minister (Some Liberty newspapers emphasize that Findley is the greatest PM so far). Liberty emphasizing again that they will end slavery, continue to work towards greater gender equality, social liberty and expansion across the continent. They are calling for continued internal improvements and the building of new schools.

The Federalists have become a more conservative centralist party. Though they also oppose slavery, they have raised alarm at the massive spending of the Liberty government. Federalists are promising more restrained purse strings and to slow the expansion westward to avoid war with Britain, which at this juncture seems increasingly likely to happen. They are promising a more diplomatic government under Party Leader Rufus King.

There you are. Have it it. You've got 2 days and a vote for your preferred party as well as your preferred president.

I just want to see, what happens, if the former monarch stays around.

(And maybe I represent the small "My vote against monarchy was no personal vote against George II." bunch *g*)

Federalist/Adams.

Absolutely gutted the Monarchy was abolished.

It was a close back and forth contest and in the end, just one vote swung the balance.

Those voting Custis should also remember, this will make it difficult to end slavery.

Indeed. It was quite the gripping contest. Tongue

Maybe we could restore the monarchy just for kicks, but remove veto power. That'd certainly clear up the slavery issue.

Any and all attempts to restore the monarchy reek of reaction. Why would you want to restore a completely useless institution?

That is true. I'd at least like to see the monarchy survive until the Civil War. George II's daughter married Robert E. Lee, so we might see a new royal house established - the house of Lincoln?

Was undecided between Clinton and JQA, but ultimately went with Clinton. I also chose Liberty as my party, which I've been doing since the party's creation.

I would personally like to see the Monarchy back, we could have Queen Mary v. Queen Victoria later!

Well, I thought about doing a civil war over the monarchy, but since George Washington Parke Custis is winning the Presidential vote, he'd probably not mind too much no longer being called King.

The current projection is a Liberty minority government short of majority by 11 seats thanks to how marginals are breaking down on my calculator.

If this result stays the same, the U.S. will likely see a 1974 UK scenario
