...whatever you'd like to call them. I'm interested in comparing these results to the moderator's poll.

I suppose the best way to define the group is as those who have voiced support for opebo and/or extreme displeasure over the way in which the forum is moderated.

Very mixed bunch. Also depends on how vocal they are.

If they really feel an urge to do something constructive, there are numerous worthy causes in RL that would use their energy. Sad to see their zeal being wasted on defending such a unworthy person banned from an obscure internet forum

Defending sexual predators is vile IMO. I know that's apparently a controversial opinion these days but there you go.

opebo has certainly defended sexual predators, but his action in Thailand, though illicit, represent voluntary transactions. Either that, or both that and the sweatshops in the developing world are exploitative.

And his okcupid profile indicates a strict preference for the 18+

Gonna take a wild guess that OKCupid doesn't allow an age lower than 18.

You'll wake up one morning, look in the mirror and sink down when you realise what you've been defending.

I'm not defending his alleged actions or alleged recreational activities, sir. I still find it interesting that even today, with all the more questions we have to consider, its the sex ones that get people so tweaked.

So what on earth are you defending? Do you think the owner of the Atlas Forum should tolerate a poster who posts a link to a nude picture of a 14 year old actress? What other valuable assets should he not have overlooked in order to allow opebo to continue to post here?
I'm not aware of any nude pictures of this nature but certainly, I am not willing to personally defend the posting of pornographic material. This may have taken place before I joined, but if that's so I'm not sure why he's only being banned now.

I'm not defending anything about him in actuality. I simply happen to share admiration for his contributions with a number of other posters, newer and more established alike.

It should be noted when looking at these results that several people who were pro-opebo and/or anti-mod and/or pro-free speech on the forum have already fled the forum in the wake of the ban.

Noted. At least 4, at most 6.

The fact they would go so far as to quit this forum in protest over the banning of someone who had (at the very least) expressed support for pedophilia does not reflect well on them.  Why expend so much emotional energy over him?  Is it worth it?

Someday, years into the future when they come to their senses (like every recovering cult member), they are going to look back on this episode and wish they had absolutely nothing to do with this opebo.

It could be higher than that if some people left quietly.

This response to the appropriate banning of opebo is about as sad as those who actually treated him like some sort of idol.

There's a line between celebrating free-speech and tolerating truly horrible things. It's been said before that if opebo had been a new poster, he'd have been gone in a nano-second. But because of his history and what he's 'given' to the forum (whatever the hell that may be) - he somehow not only gets a pass, but is celebrated for it?

You're welcome to your views on this and if you want to run around like headless chickens and waste your time frothing and wailing and gnashing your teeth, go right ahead. But there's no sympathy from me.

Even though I'm not immune from engaging in avatar solidarity movements, it is trolling, just a bit.  Smiley

This. Regardless of what poster they are or who they're standing in solidarity with, the practice is annoying.

I don't like having to the same avatar as too many other people. I'm sure it confuses others as much as it confuses me. Tongue
