I agree with Spiral. I wouldn't circumcise my own children, but it's ridiculous call it a from of child abuse, so there is no way I can support this.

EDIT: I introduced this bill as a means of protecting the bodily integrity of men who do not wish to be circumcised against their will. I see no reason for the state to sanction a practice that has no definitive medical benefits on young men.

Just for clarity's sake, would Talleyrand's amendment allow children under 8 to be circumcised without their consent, or would it ban the act of circumcising children under 8?

I had my skin cut when I was very young, I don't remember it.. I can't imagine going through that after I was 8 or so. I am inclined to support this. If you can't decide to do it when your child is born, you shouldn't  force them to have it done when they are conscious and alert. Oh my god, the horror!

It would be whatever the Department of Internal Affairs creates for that purpose. Whether that video would include cartoons or not is not my concern. Smiley

I am open to this idea, but I would disagree that these individuals would necessarily be a rubber stamp for their parents. I hope the video would contribute to their sense of autonomy with regard to this decision as well.

Oops, misread the bill, my bad.  I thought it was just banning circumcision from any age.  Sorry Sad  I am fine with the bill if your amendment passes.  My post applies to the unamended bill.
