This will not blow over, it is a serious issue. Someone died because of pettiness and an investigation is being opened. Christie can still run for President and possibly make it out of the primary, but his chances of winning are heavily damaged. His path to 270 would be limited, all the talk of him expanding the map into blue states was already premature, but at this point, it's not even realistic.

He'll go to Fort Lee to apologize personally to the mayor and townspeople.

Christie is denying that he personally tried to pursue the endorsement of the mayor.

"I am not a bully" was as convincing as Nixon's "I am not a crook".

Barbara Buono probably looks real good to a whole lot of voters right now.

New Jersey really dropped the ball here.

This is Christie's Benghazi. He'll get slammed over this, mostly from the left, but in the end it'll hardly matter.

Bridgeghazi?

That can accompany Bob McDonnell's Blinghazi.

"Bridgegate" is awful. Instead of Watergate, can we at least name it after Teapot Dome? Bridge Dome would be a much better name.

You win. :-D

Regarding the thread, cAn someone plz summarize what actions Christie said he'd take. Unless either evidence comes to light that Chritie himself authorized or knew of this vengeful act, attempted to cover it up, or foolishly stands by his cronies instead of firing them, this will likely blow over.

It's come out that Christie contacted Cuomo and asked him to not investigate the bridge closure, which calls into question Christie's claim he knew nothing. As I said before, this is about perception, it doesn't matter if no evidence comes to light that Christie gave the direct order, the average voter is going to believe that this is dirty pool as usual and a politician played a petty game.

And it hurts Cuomo's 2016/2020/2024 chances as well...

If Cuomo is implicated in helping to cover anything up, it would tremendously damage him with Democrats. If anything damaging comes out before the gubernatorial primary, he could possibly lose it.

I did, and I was right. Christie disarmed the situation pretty well. I am not a fan of his, but you’re better off running against his record and making sly digs to this incident instead of running solely on this minor scandal.

No, it won't. He is going to be reelected, sadly.

He'd lose the Democratic primary if it came out that he helped cover up a political game by a Republican. We don't know exactly what happened, but if a cover up is really the case, Cuomo is in trouble.

Could the high unemployment in New Jersey hurt him more in the GOP primary?

If Cuomo is implicated in helping to cover anything up, it would tremendously damage him with Democrats. If anything damaging comes out before the gubernatorial primary, he could possibly lose it.

There is no reason to believe Cuomo is going to be implicated in anything. It is not even clear that Cuomo could cover anything up if he wanted to: at that point there was already an investigation run by the NJ legislature and people were resigning from the PA. At the most, he could have agreed with Christie that he did not think it was his business - which, at that point, was not something that would strike most people as incorrect.

All this indicates is that Christie was, actually, desperate. It is strongly suggestive that he, actually, knew a lot more about the case at the time then he is putting on now. But Cuomo, unlike Christie, has a perfect defense: NOTHING had happened in NY. It is not like there were crowds of NYC residents desperately trying to get to Fort Lee Smiley He, unlike Christie, had no reason to suspect a huge scandal was about to break out - until the Christie call, that is. It is quite likely he was puzzled when the call came. Do you seriously think he would actually go out of his way to ask PA investigators to get off the case? Why would he?

He'll just blame the legislature.  Massachusetts had a high unemployment rate when Romney was governor, but that didn't stop him from winning the nomination.
