FF. The whole running the the anti-Catholic ticket thing is a bit of a bummer, but I've always felt that in the English-speaking world, anti-Catholicism has often been a cover for pure anti-Irish bigotry. So I'm off the hook.

No, I was merely pointing out that, when it comes to the supporters of anti 'Papist' movements that emerged politically during the 19th and early 20th centuries, they were probably far more attracted to these movements because they provided an outlet for some paddy bashing rather than because they were well-versed in theological debate. I have (as far as I'm aware) no Irish blood in me, so I wouldn't have been a priority target for the know-nothings.
