Been targeted for Network or Cable Exit Polls?

I seen in an old News Paper that my home Precinct was chosen by CBS in 1984, however they were more interested in Senator or Governor info than the President race. However this was 9 years too early for me, I was a '93 baby.

Have you ever had one of the news people come up to talk to you after voting?

I've been exit polled several times.  My old precinct had a mixture of blacks and whites that likely made it attractive to be exit polled.  (That mix also made it slightly more Democratic than the State and way more Democratic than Lexington County.)

I don't think so.  My precinct is pretty rural and heavily Republican, so I doubt it would make an interesting target for the media to run an exit poll.

I said and thought the same thing but I found the newspaper from the Monday before the 84 election and it blew my mind.

CBS/NY Times choose my precinct (which used to be at my old high school, now we go to a fire station,) and a seat in the county seat, which is a traditional Democratic place. I see why they did that now because my area hasn't been won by the Dems since Carter in 1976.

What's the methodology behind exit polls? Wouldn't targeting only select precincts skew the results?

They use an SRS of like, 15,000 polling stations or something. It's incredible how accurate and consistent they are.
