We're not talking about the shows as a whole or even the final seasons, just the final episodes. Thoughts?

Certainly not Breaking Bad, which I like less and less as time goes by. Probably The Sopranos but the end montage of The Wire is perfect in every way.

For me:

1. The Sopranos (possibly the best series finale ever)
2. The Wire
3. Breaking Bad (the first half or so was brilliant but the rest was just okay by Breaking Bad standards)

Never seen The Sopranos (I know), but The Wire's ending is obviously better than Breaking Bad's finale.

The one filmed literally a couple hundred yards from where I grew up.

Is this meant to be a serious comment? You are aware that people can do both, right?

I've never actually seen any of these, since I don't really watch television.

Uh... What? Couldn't the same be said for an internet forum, cinema, etc.? It's quite possible to do both. Sometimes the mind likes to be engaged, and sometimes it likes to sit on the sidelines.

I'm almost convinced that the Breaking Bad finale was written by AMC executives to appease casual fans and people who strictly enjoy network television.

The Breaking Bad finale was shockingly bad in comparison to the rest of the entire run of the show, to the point where I have to agree with Kemp in that it felt like it wasn't even written by the same people.

The Sopranos obviously takes this.

The Sopranos ending was great, especially the final 5 minutes or so, I don't understand the people that hate it, especially the ones that were fans of the show.

It's true, the final montage in The Wire was also pretty good and I like that episode very much, but I feel The Sopranos was more original, and frankly the whole season 5 of the Wire, while very good was lackluster compared to the other 4 seasons.

Haven't seen Breaking Bad yet, but my dad is a fan and it's probably the next TV series I'll pick up Tongue

The Shield has the best series finale (and best last season) that I've ever seen.

Some people will simply remain intellectual lightweights even if they brag about reading a f**king book on the internet forum.

The Breaking Bad finale was pretty bad and gave Walt a much better ending than he deserved, I like to pretend the show ended with Ozymandais.  Hell, it'd have even been better if the last episode turned out to be a fantasy Walt had as he died in the car from the beginning of the episode (although this still would've been rightly criticized as a cheap trick, it would've been better then what they went with).  I share pkemp's suspicions on the subject as well.  AMC execs have been getting a bit more assertive lately about creative control, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least.  For example, part of why The Walking Dead has been more or less FUBAR after season 1 was that AMC forced out the guy who created the show, Frank Darabont, because they wanted to go in a different creative direction (whatever Darabont wanted to do, I find it hard to imagine that the director of The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, and The Green Mile was planning something worse than the muddled mess that the show has become).  Another example is splitting the "final" season of Mad Men (a show that has likely gone on a season too long as it is) into two half-length parts in order to keep it on for an extra year.  As for the question, I really liked both The Wire and The Sopranos' season finales, I guess I'd go with the latter since it did something I've never seen any other show pull off.  One thing I think we can all agree on though is that Dexter had one of the worst final episodes ever.

Yeah, The Walking Dead is something. I really enjoyed its first (mini) season quite a bit but I simply can't make it through the second season. It's so boring and from what I hear things don't really get any better.

I was under the impression that the Breaking Bad finale was all a fantasy and Walt either died in the car or that he was arrested and the rest of merely how he'd want to go out if given the choice... the whole "keys falling down from above" seemed way too contrived for the show. And the cops that disappeared randomly? I'm pretty certain Walt was arrested in New Hampshire.

Yea, that was purely fan speculation and debunked by Vince Gilligan.

He did? Well in that case, yeah, everything wrapped up a little too neatly.

That's another problem. Gilligan shouldn't be shooting down people's interpretations. He shouldn't be talking about the finale at all.

Those "Talking Dead", Talking Bad", etc. shows are terrible. Do the viewers really need every aspect of each episode explained to them in detail? I'm sure "Talking Mad" will be the next one. Ugh.
