This is the first of two bills that are intended to split up the Fair Wage and Community Revitalization Act.  The next will be coming in roughly half a minute, after the anti-flood trigger gets reset.

From the original bill, since the last amendment on which voting halted:

The Fair Wage Act

§ 1. The federal minimum wage of Atlasia shall be increased by $0.50 per hour over the next two years, until it reaches the level of $6.15/hour.

As an amendment was proposed in the other thread, it carries over into this one.  The amendment is as follows:

A new section, Section 2, shall be added, and its text shall be as follows:

§ 2. If at any time within the next 3 years, either one of these two things occur...

1. Three consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth, as reported by the Commerce Department.

2. Unemployment numbers grow above 7% for three consecutive quarters, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The minimum wage increase proposed in Clause 1 will be reduced by $0.15/hour every quarter, but shall not be reduced to less than $5.50/hour.  This will continue until either the minimun wage becomes $5.50/hour or until economic GDP growth resumes or the unemployment rate drops.

I hereby open voting on this amendment.

All senators in favor, vote "aye"; all against, vote "nay".

Oh, and debate was also implicitly opened on this bill.

Even though it's ridiculous in the description of negative growth...

Aye.

Senator Naso is now clearly becoming a Ted Kennedy/liberal RINO before our very own eyes. (aside to the crowd)

So why did you vote against my amendment earlier?

Clause 4
If at any time within the next 3 years, either one of these two things occur...

1. Two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth, as reported by the Commerce Department.

2. Unemployment numbers grow above 7% for two consecutive quarters, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The minimum wage increase proposed in Clause 1 will become null and void and the minimum wage will return to its present level of $5.15/hr.

Guess our VP is going to have to break the tiebreak here.

Thanks, "Senator" Naso for showing your true colors.

Okay, with the Vice President casting his tie-breaking vote in favor, I hereby declare the amendment to have passed.

Senators have 24 hours to do anything else on this bill (or start debate back up); if nothing happens in that time period, the bill itself will go up for a vote.

Aaaand... the 24 period is up.

Here's the bill in its final state:

The Fair Wage Act

§ 1. The federal minimum wage of Atlasia shall be increased by $0.50 per hour over the next two years, until it reaches the level of $6.15/hour.

I hereby open voting on this bill.

All senators in favor, vote "yea"; all against, vote "nay".
