Why is his skin color relevant? He's still an islamist.

Again, what does his race have to do with anything? Or age? Does it not fit your stereotypes about Kansas, whites, elderly people, and tea partiers?

Yes, my stereotypes about old white guys from Kansas would be that they have nothing to do with radical Islam.  I'm not sure where the tea party bit comes in, but it seems to be part of your agenda...whatever that may be.

Well, to be fair, I think you're required to turn in your White Card upon converting to Islam.

Well...it would certainly be interesting if I still lived in Wichita at this time. Tongue

Well, yes, that's the point. The guy looks like a white guy (and unlike most of the convicted terrorists we've seen so far, would easily be considered a white guy by most of America), is old, from Kansas, and so forth. He looks like he'd more easily fit in a Tea Party crowd than an Al-Queada cell. He even still keeps his English-sounding name.

It goes to show the popular stereotype of the turban-clad, brown-skinned bearded lunatic terrorist isn't really true.

Definitely. Look at the 1990s. Deaths from Oklahoma City + 1996 Olympic + Unabomber > WTC bombing

I completely agree with your point but the deaths from those incidents combined comes out to around 174, far fewer then the WTC attacks.

He said bombing, not attacks in general, so I presume he was referring to 2/26 not 9/11.

Remember Eric Hoffer's The True Believer? In essence the fanatics and extremists with scorpions in their souls can more easily go from one extremist cause to another (think of German Communists who became Nazis around 1933 and ex-fascists who easily became Commies in central and Balkan Europe soon after WWII) than give up the fanaticism and extremism.

Bolshevist Karl Radek saw the SA street brawler, but not even the moderate member of the Social Democratic Party as a potential Bolshevik.

As Hoffer said, the opposite of a raging fascist is not a raging communist. The opposite of a raging fascist is a sober liberal.
