Discuss with maps, for obvious reasons.

The one that secular/cosmopolitan/western-minded Indians vote for.

Scary ass list of parties, most if which are populist factions. But BJP (essentially Tory) .

Cameron, for his part, hasn't been banned from visiting the US.

The only party that are notable are the INC which is generic social democratic (although overall probably more left-wing then most First World social democratic parties), and the BJP (the "conservative" party being somewhat more pro-free market then INC but also a Hindu nationalist party linked to persecution of Christians and Muslims).

INC is the only real option here.

Thanks Mung Beans. I agree, INC is the only remotely agreeable option.

Saying that, I THINK the part of my Indian Sikh family still living in the Punjab vote Shiromani Akali Dal (Sikh Centrism), the largest party in the province, similar to Plaid Cymru \(ie cultural-centric) except federalist not nationalist

Some of these parties really need to merge- India could also do with a classical or mildly social liberal party coming to the fore.

Full disclosure: I included all the regional parties so I can judge whoever voted for them. Alas, the only choices with votes apart from INC and BJP are the CPI(M) and CPI (the difference being the former was a political machine in West Bengal and the other not so).

For those who voted for the CPI(M), the New Left Review (!) has a free (!!) article on their implosion in West Bengal.  The CPI is only relevant in Kerala, the butt of many jokes for its extraordinary welfare state but lagging economic growth.
