No (D). At this point, so many people own and use guns in non-criminal ways that banning them would effectively result in the creation of a massive black market for guns, simply because people won't be willing to give them up. And the result of that will be the United States sending more people into our already needlessly over-sized prison population.

My position on guns is: Have a system to ensure that they don't fall into the wrong hands, but don't ban them.

there already is a black market for guns, mainly due to lax federal restrictions.

criminals buy the guns in southern states then bring them to northern cities to re sell.

I certainly don't support anything this extreme.  I would prefer to regulate guns rather than ban them completely.

When it comes to handguns, I would support a general handgun ban in major cities, excluding law enforcement and similar public safety officers.  Then, I would create a system of registration and strict liability fines.  I would basically create a liability regime for gun makers, dealers and owners, require all gun owners to buy insurance, register their weapon, only sell through a highly regulated market.  My strategy would basically try to increase the price of guns and use liability concerns for makers, dealers and users as an incentive to clean up the black market and self-regulate.

No, though I would support an amendment to constitution banning the sale and ownership of rocket launchers, their munitions, bombs, mines, and crew-serviced weapons. I'd also support an amendment clearly establishing that government may make seekers of sidearms or light weapons first earn, then periodically thereafter renew licenses for them.

No. In the past, I've oftentimes had my fellow leftists implore me to have a bit more faith in humanity, so here it is: I have faith in the notion that humanity can have guns without wantonly murdering each other, just as we've kept from doing so by way of swords and bows since they went obsolete. There should be restrictions and controls, naturally - the defeat of Manchin-Toomey in Congress, for instance, was absolutely ridiculous - but I've never gone along with the idea of a wholesale ban, and don't imagine I ever will.
