I hadn't brought it up or seen anyone else do so.  It was being hailed by Pro-Lifer groups as the first time "voters instead of politicians got to decide," no doubt trying to utilize off year turnout.  It still failed.  Losing both early and election day voting.

A city ordinance against abortion is a retarded unenforceable act that would be overturned in the state supreme court anyway (or in the next real election cycle next year), but a great message victory nonetheless.

I don't understand why pro-lifers haven't given up. It will never happen.

Meanwhile the Supreme Court has refused to intervene with the implementation of Texas' abortion law.

A city ordinance banning abortion, even if it were held up by the courts, seems pointless. Wouldn't any abortion clinics in Albuquerque just relocate to immediately outside the city limits? It's not even a very big city.

A general ban on abortion won't, but a late-term ban enjoys considerable popular support.

Yes, it was incredibly popular with a minority of the voters tonight.

Wait, opposing late-term abortions makes you pro-life now?

Here in California, they had parental notification of minors having an abortion on the ballot in 2005, 2006, and 2008. Voters rejecting it 3 times hasn't stopped them from trying to qualify attempt number 4 on the ballot. They won't give up. The last attempt was the closest, 48%, 4% less than what Prop. 8 got.

You must fight to keep your beliefs in the Overton Window.

Note late-term is in parentheses.  This was a ban that set it at 20 weeks with no health considerations.  Late term abortion bans passed state and nationally in the past were 24-26 weeks.

We give into things like this and the next "late term" abortion ban will be 16 weeks... 12 weeks...

Yes, if you're against choice at this point, you're against choice.

That's the size of it. One question though. If SCOTUS let the Texas laws through, does that give them a window to overturn Roe?  If so, after this election, I would welcome it. Let's see how voters nationwide will deal with comprehensive abortion criminalization.
