Is the GOP bench that weak in New York State?

Note that this is an Excellent/Good/Fair/Poor poll.

His approvals would be much higher than 44% who say "excellent/good".

His favorables are also above 60% in this poll.

No, it's OK.

This thread is for the 2014 election and my thread is for the 2016 election.

It seems like a lot of his disapproval is disapproval from the left in New York, so it would be impossible/very hard for a Republican to beat him.

Is it just me, or is NY becoming even more solidly blue every year? I mean, Kirsten Gillibrand got 72% of the vote in the Senate race last year. That's Utah-esque levels of partisanship.

Good point. I really don't see how Siena interprets "fair" as a negative job approval rating. They suck at analyzing their own poll. Only 17% picked "poor".

Almost every pollster who uses an Excellent/Good/Fair/Poor job approval scale considers Fair a negative rating.  If the best you can say is that someone is doing a fair job, he's not doing his job very well.

Treating "fair" as a negative/disapproval is stupid. No idea why polling firms still do it.

It'll be interesting to see how the WFP and Greens approach this election. Cuomo's base is not very happy.

"Fair" can have a positive connotation, as in "fair play" or "fair weather". A/B/C/D/E grading leaves no ambiguity. You could even be happy with something mediocre -- if you must eat out, then a mediocre sandwich from some fast food place might satisfy your purposes without burning through your cash.

^^^

Democrats have a rock solid base in New York, so I think it would be almost impossible for him to lose to a actual republican.

If a Democrat actually had disapproval from the center/center-left (which is difficult), had a strong Republican, and/or it's a good Republican year, they have a shot in a Governor's race or other statewide race.
