PPP asked three different questions in a poll published on November 5th that pertained to the wearing of (presumably) shirts that feature the Confederate flag and the gay pride flag in schools. From the 629 respondents in the Republican primary section of the automated poll, the following results emerged:

Quote

37% of Republicans think the Confederate flag is inappropriate in school, while 57% think the gay pride flag is inappropriate in schools; 28% think the gay pride flag is appropriate, while 43% think the Confederate flag is appropriate.

In the third question, 90% of surveyed Republicans either think the Confederate flag is a more appropriate symbol than a gay pride flag to wear to school, or are so confused and torn between the two that they cannot decide.

Disgusting.

this is going to be so funny when we reach the point that anti-gay crusaders are looked back on as disapprovingly as segregationists.

Odd that there was no age-difference on this question, as there is with almost every other question about gays (including among Republicans).  Would have been nice for them to have the Democrats answer this question too.

How does one "wear a flag?"

(Yes, I know the question is referring to flag t-shirt designs.  I just think the question is just phrased oddly.)

Yes, it is despicable that flags are being worn as clothing instead of being free to wave freely from a standard.  Free the flags!

It doesn't take a genius to figure out what Ernest's issue is.

Ern just wants to prance about the school waving his rainbow flag around like Joanna Rohrbach.  Ern is an FF.

No flags are appropriate in schools.

US flag, state flag, and maybe a city flag. Maybe in the Spanish class one has flags of Spain or Mexico. You get the general idea. If it has no educational purpose a flag has no cause to exist in a school classroom unless it is effectively neutered.

...I wish that Southern states would ditch the Flag of Treason from their flags.

My issue is comedy since I really had nothing else to say about the matter that hadn't already been said.  So rather than do a diito, or a rehash of what someone else had said, I tried for a bit of levity.  People here on this site tend to take themselves way too seriously.  Nut since you want a serious post, fine.

I can support a ban on clothing flags as part of a school uniform policy. Conversely, if there is no such ban, then both flags should be allowed as general free speech.

That's because the Confederate flag is far more significant and important than the gay pride flag(s).

It's all good.  Conservatives are conservative because they conserve things.  The confederate flag--which I assume is not the flag under discussion but we'll just assume for the sake of argument that it is--represents a history and a tradition.  There's really nothing wrong with it, and there's nothing wrong with those who approve of it.  The "gay pride" flag is a newer tradition.  There's nothing wrong with it either, and there's nothing wrong with those who approve of it, but you can't expect a new thing to be accepted to the degree that an old thing is, especially by those who are either labelled as, or self-identify as, "conservatives."  Being surprised by the fact that more conservatives approve of Confederate flags than gay pride flags in schools is rather like being surprised by the fact that more people would rather speak to someone on the phone when making a reservation for a restaurant than have to scroll through digital menus and end up speaking to a recording device in order to make a reservation for a restaurant.  These things simply take getting used to.

Barfbag's trollish post has been removed as well as the responses thereto, and don't expect a response from him anytime soon, as it is likely he won't be able to for some months depending upon how Nym responds to barfbag getting muted yet again.  Those in the mod cave thinking he could be reformed from his trollish ways have come to the conclusion that at a minimum he needs time to grow up.

All I saw was that he wouldn't want his child around homosexuality. Isn't that just expressing his opinion? That may be a stupid thing to say, but I certainly don't think that's worth muting or anything. Perhaps there was something else I didn't see?

The guy's in his late 20s.  He's had plenty of time to grow up.

Are you kidding me? I genuinely thought he was 14-17.

Yeah.  The way he acts and the age he claims do not correspond.  While there really is no way to know for certain, he has not acted in the manner I would associate with someone in his late 20s.
