Senator, you have 24 hours to begin advocating for this.

Mr. PPT, for record keeping purposes, this bill is going in the foreign policy slot.

Tmth asked me about this and I support it. If the rest of the Senate has anything constructive to add to it, please do, but I like it as is.

Military families are sacrificing everything to keep our nation safe, and often do not get to select where they are deployed. Rather than create a concrete spending project, this bill creates a pilot program to give military families a voucher to send a child to the best school possible.

I feel like the text makes it fairly self-explanatory, but would be happy to address any concerns the Senate may have. I thank the administration for bringing this important issue to the floor.

Can we clarify what these vouchers would be used for?

You're right - I suppose clarification is needed that this is intended for educational purposes for the children.

I'm confused as to the necessity of this. Isn't K-12 funding already accounted for by the regions? Forgive me if I'm understanding this incorrectly, but I don't see what military families would be spending this on; is this meant to be a subsidization of school supplies and the travel to and fro?

Vouchers are a bad policy no matter who they're being given to. I will fight tooth and nail against this assault on public education in Atlasia.

I'll support this most likely but I'm going to look it over and see if any improvements can be made.

So these are vouchers for the government subsidization of private school, then?

Yes, for the children of our troops, who do not have the option of selecting where they live (including the school district) like many of us enjoy. I think that this is certainly something we can do considering the sacrifices our brave men and women in arms make.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most military bases have public schools for children of military parents. This is an unnecessary giveaway to private schools - it is welfare for private schools that the Senator is proposing here, and nothing less. This bill should be defeated.

Introducing this amendment based off of what Yankee suggested (sorry, didn't see it earlier!):

Hm, so I've been thinking, I believe pilot programs and controlled studies are important to determine the viability of social programs, so I think I'll support this if we can cut the sample in half. It's hardly a pilot program if we're funding 10,000 families. Considering we don't really know whether or not something like this would have any real benefit to educational quality, it might behoove us not to be so ambitious. I'll introduce an amendment after tmth's amendment goes through.

I'm not sure what is controversial with this amendment - it clarifies that this is specifically for education, actually involves the federal government more, and gives parents the option of sending their children off-base, an idea that the Senator from the Midwest has expressed support for.

Perhaps next time I should have a Labor Senator introduce an amendment for me - see if it turns out differently.
