The sponsor has 24 hours to start advocating for this.

This is a pretty straight-forward reform. The idea that three people constitute an organized political party is ludicrous.

I thought we had gotten rid of the 3 person standard? I think we should if we haven't.

Either way, I think this is confusing and a little bit counter productive. (wasn't this Gass's earlier?)

Glad that the Labor Party has come around on this. I fully support this amendment.

It failed in the northeast and the pacific I think.

I think it's fairly obvious to almost everyone here that the we need more political parties amendment was a bad idea, and 3 people are not a party and shouldn't be included on the registrar general's thread. But I do agree with Maxwell that this amendment seems a bit cumbersome. Perhaps if being an organized political party entailed anything special with regard to elections I would support the 2nd and 3rd clauses, but at the moment they seem kind of pointless.

Why don't we just make the limit for having a Political Party that is actually mentioned 10 instead of having the extra stuff?

Yeah, just make it 10 and be done with it. I can't imagine any legitimate reason existing that would make anything smaller a "major" political party. Major parties need to, you know, win actual elections.

I would still prefer five though, if we are going to repeal the We Need More Parties Amendment.

I support this amendment, though like Yankee, I think 5 is a better standard.

5 is, I think, a little too low. Would 7 be a reasonable compromise?

Well, 5 is the number that had been used for years, and I never heard any complaints that it was too low. The only reason it was changed was because folks actually wanted it lower.

I'll be opposing this. I don't think we should create bigger obstacles for other parties. The way it is right now is fine with me, though bumping the number up to 5 would definitely be a more reasonable approach than 10.

I am fine with 7, though I agree with Bore that 5 is low.

I think that rather than haggling over numerical limits, we should make sure that organized political parties are, you know, organized. Gass proposed such an amendment two Senates ago that was rejected without debate.

Why should the Registrar General be required to recognize parties in the first place?

Why is it our tradition? What purpose does it serve?

Its a tradition because the whole point of this thing is to organize into groups and win elections. This is a formalization of the registration process similar to how the US operates.

I disagree with the premise that the point of Atlasia is "to organize into groups and win elections."

You can't really disagree with that premise, the history shows us that traditionally thats what Atlasia is and was founded to be. You can see things that way now, but that isn't tradition
