I haven't drank soda since May 19th, 2012. The trick is substitution. To find something that has a similar taste, minus of course the carbonation and its taste effect and to use that instead. I used to drink Fanta as a recreational drink, while I would have a regular Pepsi or Coke in a small cup with a dinner or lunch. However, my main base drink has been lemonade for breakfast and the rest of the day a combination of unsweetened ice tea and lemonade the rest of the day for several years now, with the occassional cherry kool-aide in the summer and a vanilla milkshake every few weeks. I don't drink alcohol (though the bottom two boards make me regret that at times Tongue). Most of the soda was with snacks, parties or what not. The regular stuff was easy to cut out since it was a secondary drink anyway. The Fanta was the hard one, but fortunately, I found an orange drink with a somewhat similar taste to use instead for those purposes.

So did anyone here overcome a pop or " soda" problem?

I gave it up for a year for a $125 bet.  I could do it again, but I have no desire to (it's annoying not to NEVER be able to drink it, especially at parties/events), but since then, I don't drink it nearly as much as I used to.

I have wondered how this panned out for you.

I would try that drink.

Tomorrow I will try to only drink a 24 oz pop. It sucks that it only costs .20 cents less for the small pop vs the big one at one store. And at another store the big two liter is only a dollar plus deposit.

If you're going to be addicted to something, it might as well be something worthwhile... Wink

Seriously though, I drink half a liter maybe every second day. I suppose it's also somewhat of an addiction.

Southeast also has gone under Northernization so more counties should be soda counties.

And at least in most of the Houston area, it's called soda.

Also, switching to beer bourbon because you drink too much soda may be the worst best solution ever. Please don't do that.

Is it coke?  or Pepsi?  If so, you might actually be addicted to caffeine.  That's a wicked addiction.  I get about a gram of caffeine every day via a pot of strong coffee.  Way more than the surgeon general recommends.

If it's Fanta or Sprite, then I'm not sure what the addiction is.  Maybe you're into sugar.  Or maybe you like burping.  Or maybe it's just a psychological addiction.  Those can be bad as well, if they're causing social problems or health problems or economic problems.  Is it really a problem?  If you're fat, or pimply, then it's probably a real problem, but there are folks who drink lots of soft drinks and don't run into such problems.  My friend Lisa used to drink about two liters of Dr. Pepper every day when we were children, but I don't think it has caused her any long-term physical problems.  She broke out with acne badly in about the ninth grade, quit the Dr. Pepper, and it cleared up pretty quickly.  No other problems as far as I knew.

Seriously I'm addicted to pop I have drank over 100 ounces of it today. I drink like at least 300 oz a week if not more. I think I'm addicted it is so tasty. I hate diet pop and would rather drink water. I would lose like 20+ pounds if I stopped drinking it and would not feel so bad. I tried to just buy a smaller one but that didn't work the two liter is only 1.19 plus .10 deposit right now very cheap. I hate to think of how much I spend on pop. I should tell them not to sell me pop. Ugh I need to stop drinking pop. They need support groups for excessive pop drinkers. I considered switching to beer because I won't drink nearly as much like only two beers but beer is more expensive.
You and Mike Bloomberg would definately get along quite well.

So are the people who drink such a large quantity of soda.

[Well, not really, actually that's the 11-17 crowd who, on average, get 226 calories per day from sugary drinks (soda, "energy" drinks, etc.)  But the 6-11 crowd is pretty close, at 209 calories per day.]

Ugh so I went to mcDonalds and got a large soda. Then when I was at the store I bought a two liter. I'm trying really hard not to open it but I think I will eventually give in.

No it's the best solution, I suggested it in the IRC.

k
Why the offensive language? Nothing wrong with having a few beers everyday, bro or not. It's certainly much healthier than liters of pop.

It's best not to replace one vice with another that has potential to be much, much worse.

Today's pop total is 99 oz, a two liter and a large McDonalds coke. yesterday was officially 107oz, so slightly better but still terrible. I think starting Saturday it will really drop off.
