I'm going to make this prediction now.  As much as I admire Hillary, I don't think she's going to run.  Chris Christie will be the next President of the United States.  As a Democrat, I have mixed feelings about this.  If we have to have a Republican President, I'd rather have him than any of the wingnuts.  What I'm afraid of is that he'll actually turn out to be a good, moderate President.  He might unite the country more than Barack Obama could.

I see in Chris Christie a kind of Eisenhower.  He'll be the first Republican President since Reagan that wasn't a Bush.

And yes, the media is in love with him.

Yep. I think if Clinton runs, this will be a very tight election. If she doesn't, he runs roughshod over the Democrat.

Why would you be afraid of someone turning out to be a good president who unites the country?

Because it would make the left-wing look bad, which all democrats are afraid of, of course.

Quite frankly, I think that if Democrats managed to hold the Senate next year and get back the House in 2016 while Chris Christie wins, it may be the best thing that happens to them. They'd get far more of what they want from a Democratic-controlled Congress and a moderate Republican president than they are getting with the most liberal Democratic president since Lyndon Johnson, a very unified Democratic Senate caucus that no longer has to deal with a revanchist Southern wing colluding with Republicans, and the most conservative Republican House since the Gilded Age more or less canceling out anything either one tries to do.

Chris Christie could potentially unite the country because Congressional Democrats actually try to respect the will of the voters and forge compromise which is the purpose of government.

Congressional Republicans, on the other hand...

I don't know if Christie has the right kind of personality to win the republican primary. McCain and Romney were also moderates, but I think they were better politicans.

Which Romney was a moderate? Certainly not the one that ran in 2012.

Moderate for the republicans.

The Clintons need the money.

Christie is like your everyday "American" (especially considering his healthy height habits) but remember:

In America, the opposition party does everything they can to make sure the President does not succeed.  At least today.  Well, at least the Republicans with President Obama.  Republicans would rather the country suffers tremendously than President Obama be a good president who unites the country.

What I'm afraid of is another Republican President.  Especially one that doesn't believe his own child should be able to marry because they're gay.  Chris Christie is a moderate only in a far-right party.  He'll toe the Tea Party line once he gets out of New Jersey.

Christie is clearly the most electable GOP candidate out there but not unbeatable. Should the election be close, he does blow his top like in N.h. When he campaigned for Romney. All the Dems need is to find 28 electors and expose that weakness, despite being outmanuvered by his maverick ways. Prefer Clinton or Schweizer to be on ticket in some fashion.

But not as much as they were with John McCain.

It could happen but I also wouldn't go by yesterday's low turnout election against a mediocre opponent with no money/support from her party.

Also, it's a question mark how well Christie could do in a GOP primary. He may not get Romney's luck with such a weak slate of opponents. We also don't have a clear sense of how bad his vetting problems were.

Or because he'd "unite the country" to pursue a destructive right-wing agenda that wreaks severe social carnage like Reagan in the 80s?

Yeah.  'Uniting the country' is right-wing doublespeak for 'successfully duping the working class'.

In no reality is the owner ever 'united with' the worker.

"The worker" is about as meaningless a phrase as "the people".

Christie won't make it through the primary.

Pretty much, he has a lot of baggage.

Hilary Clinton will President in January 2017.

A little too hasty. Wasn't Hillary Clinton supposed to be president in January 2009?

Eh...IIRC she was only at about 40% in 2006-2007, leaving an opening to her left. Now she's at 60-70%. Also, Rudy Giuliani was supposed to give her a tough fight in the general (lol).

Christie is the best perspective candidate for the GOP, but I don't see his victory as anything assured.  A Presidential race is a whole different animal from a Gubernatorial election.  Also, I think there is a tendency to underestimate how well a non-Hillary Democratic nominee could actually do.

Either Chris Christie or Hillary Clinton. I can't see either Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, Joe Biden or Martin O' Malley winning the election if they get the nomination.
