...as per Double Down aka Game Change 2. Some other interesting (albeit not very surprising) details in there regarding Obama's relationships with Biden and Bill Clinton, Chris Christie, and more.

Sounds like Obama was hoping for an old man advisor out of Biden and instead got "man when I'm President in 2017, Barack let me you tell you--" young at heart.

I wonder how personally embarrassing this is for Joe Biden. I wonder if Biden knew or if this will cause some tension between them.

It's not.

Sounds like the senior White House team was just doing their job and concluded Biden wasn't the problem and Hillary wasn't the solution.  Not even looking into it would be malpractice on an unimaginable scale.

I don't think this is very embarrassing for Biden; he did after all stay on the ticket.

That being said I could be wrong because I didn't read the article, just the quote in this thread. I don't want to spoil the book!

people in such positions talk about everything, it's naive to think they wouldn't talk about this.  non-story.

Dropping a VP has an image cost, it would have made Obama look desperate and be seen as admitting he made a mistake in picking Biden. So to switch Biden with Hillary would not be seen as Biden being merely a little worse than Hillary, but a lot worse, in order to outweigh the negatives. The fact that it was even debated that Biden was a lot worse than Hillary is embarassing for him.

Strategists no doubt float ideas all the time that have chance of happening. Over sensationalized reporting.

Gives more fuel to the rumors that Bill Daley was a terrible Chief of Staff and was hated by everyone. One of the biggest complaints against Daley was how he never understood the Obama coalition and was still stuck in the DLC 1990s.

Biden being Biden seems to be Joe's biggest sin.
OTOH, Christie, Huntsman and Obama aren't exactly presented in the most positive light, from what I read in the article.

Anyway, I enjoyed the first book and I'm fully expect to do the same with this one.

I don't think Hillary would ever accept the Vice-Presidency.

Yea guys threadsh**t all you want but the fact that someone as high up as a Chief of Staff is publicly admitting to having serious discussions about replacing a sitting Vice President is notable.

And no, we didn't know this.

IIRC and I'll find it if need be, David Ploufe (the architect) also denied this.  I have no doubt they talked about it, but I'm not sure how seriously.

So we now take spin at face value?

Ok maybe it wasn't a "serious" notion but let's not act like denials should be taken at face value.

I don't think I was taking anyone at face value.....excessive hyperbole by all sides is the hallmark of politics.
