Ottawa is a single-tier municipality which is basically a 'county' (thanks Mike Harris), with a population of about 880,000.

Shropshire's a unitary authority now?

Orange County, CA has a little over 3 million. I wonder if it has the most population of any suburban county in the US.  I can't think of any with more.

Even though it's technically been abolished, I've voted 500k+, as I presume it's what modern day Cleveland would have.

I take it that you don't identify with Yorkshire then Tongue

(557,227 for the post-1970s county of Cleveland, so you were about right).

Ummm... That depends on whether you use real counties that people identify with or superficial centrally imposed boundaries that have no significance to anyone other than bureaucrats.

As I still consider myself from the first, the answer is c.1.3 millions persons.

It's not so much I don't identify with Yorkshire, it's more that I've grown up (and taught to) filling every application, every address, and choosing Cleveland from the UK drop-down on contemporary online forms, that the abolition of Cleveland doesn't seem that it's even happened. More a product of local confusion, than any defining myself against Yorkshire (I like the place!).

Though at least you do actually live in Cleveland proper (rather than in, say, Monkeyville).

And the locals, you know, lynched a poor defenceless monkey. That's unforgivable.

I don't have a clue how I've done that - it's not even where I live (and nor would I really want to broadcast my exact address anyway!).
