Looks like a win/win for Democrats. Either we get a somewhat sane Republican (McCain) or cause the Lean R state of Arizona to become competitive after McCain is ousted by a shutdown supporting Tea Partier.

Bleh. He's better than just about any Arizona Democrat, so if he wins re-election, so be it. That's said, I hope he gets a serious challenge from someone with the complete opposite foreign policy, whether that's from the Republican or Democrat party.

Heck at 80, he still has several more elections in him  Thurmond ran his last race at age 94.

Is it too much to hope that Salmon or Schweikert have more success than Hayworth?

He 'seriously' needs to quit, the best of times are behind them. I hope he disregards thinking about staying in Washington and retires.

If Salmon had been the Tea Party challenger in 2010, McCain would not be a Senator right now.

Ugh. I rooted for Hayworth in 2010 and support any primary challenge to him.

I'd rather have John McCain than Trent Franks or Dave Schweikert. Or heaven forbid Ben Quayle.

He could certainly stay in the Senate for a long time, if he lives as long as and remains as healthy as his mother. Tongue

Good news. I'm not very confident we can even win this open seat in 2016, so might as well have someone like him.

Meh, I suppose he's better than other Republicans <_<

Given his mother is (IIRC) still alive, 80 isn't that old.
