Judge Carlo Key, the presiding judge for the Bexar, Texas County Criminal Court #11 since 2011, announced Monday that he is leaving the Republican Party and will seek re-election as a Democrat. His reason: the growing anti-LGBT extremism in the Texas GOP.

Key referenced the recent actions of San Antonio City Councilwoman Elisa Chan, a Republican candidate for Texas State Senate, who fought against a citywide employment non-discrimination law and was recorded on tape calling homosexuality “so disgusting.” San Antonio is the county seat of Bexar County.

(R-TX).

EDIT: What I meant by this was approximately: This is a person who is or was at one point voluntarily associated with the modern Texas Republican Party, and is not Ralph M Hall. I see no reason why anybody sane would care what he has or ever will have got to say.
I was not entirely serious about it, which is probably why I didn't spell it out.

Bexar isn't as D as you'd expect.

It went Obama easily enough and unless I'm colorblind there's a lot of blue in Dave's TX results map......and I'll have to google it to see when this judge's term is up....

Obama won in 51-47, not exactly dominating.  And in 2010 Bill White won it vs Perry but by only .5%

At the presidential level I'd say it's gotten to that point. But locally it's very split. For one thing, Hispanic turnout isn't any better there than in the rest of the state. There are very few African-Americans. A lot of active and retired military personnel live there because of Lackland AFB, which is a plus for Republicans. And historically that part of Texas was never as solidly Dem as the rest of the state, so even older whites there are less likely to vote for a Democratic county judge or sheriff out of a sense of tradition like they still do in East Texas.

Very sad.  I'm a Republican and have nothing against homosexuals as people.   And Bexar County is more of a swing county, anyway.
