What is your opinion of the word "heck?" How do you pronounce it? Will you indeed be spared from eternal damnation in heck, for using "heck" in sentences instead of "hell?"

The day I use the word "heck" is the day I concede defeat to everything I hate on this planet.

I agree, "heck" sounds pretty stupid to use.

It's better than cussing.  FW  Unless you're talking about the actual place called hell.

Freedom word, and one of my favourites. Although I use it semi-ironically.

Reminds me of how in my younger days I instinctively read the acronym 'omg' in my head as 'oh my gosh.' Anyway, the word "heck." It's kind of adorable in that folksy way, like wooden ornaments painted and shaped to look like roosters or other nonsense that say "God bless this mess" and have some hay stuck to them for no reason. It makes me smile and roll my eyes.

I had a teacher who wouldn't even let us say "heck" or "shoot" because things like that were just substitutes for what you really meant. My grandfather, though, would call people jackasses - and he was a minister. Meanwhile, another man at Christian summer camp told us that saying "what the hell" was likely not bad, but saying "go to hell" was flippantly wishing someone was damned to the worst place in existance. I got a lot of mixed messages for what was and wasn't cursing or swearing.. so it didn't take me too long to realize about the whole thing: "What the hell? F*** it."

My opinion?

It's the same as saying "hell".  You say it you might as well repent to Jesus, you sinful motherfucker.

I think it's ok, but honestly, I don't remember hearing anyone say it since I was a child, which was about thirty years ago.
