I do not, which is a little unusual for South Dakota.

Kinda (R). I shot an animal that was trapped, and I have been hunting, but have not had the opportunity to even shoot.

I would never go out of my way to shoot guns at animals, no. I find hunting pretty creepy, honestly.

Yes, but only deer, because pretty much I and the rest of the neighborhood eat venison.

No, but of course it's not immoral.

No, and unless it's done as a matter of acquiring sustenance, I think it's highly immoral.

This. If you're not going to eat it don't hunt it.

No, hunting for sport (or for entertainment purposes) is an evil activity.

No, but I don't object to it and wouldn't mind trying it sometime. I know a guy who apparently makes a decent buck (lol) on the side hunting deer. He gives me free deer jerky. Smiley

I don't morally agree with the "sport of hunting", but I would argue there are sufficient ecological necessities as a whole, for the action.  It goes without saying, of course, a balance between necessity and extremity is important.

There's a few hunters in my family and I'd rather have McDonalds that has been sitting under a heat lamp for 3 hours than what I've tasted of "fresh" game.

That makes the decision pretty easy for me.

Shooting ranges can be pretty fun though, so I do share those sympathies with the NRA crowd.

Most of those in Oklahoma who hunt eat their kill and hang their heads on their office or living room/bedroom walls.  I have no objections to hunting, I just can think of better things to do with my time.

I personally don't like killing animals for sport, but I don't get too worked up about hunters shooting animals to kill them quickly (as long as they're not endangered).  I loathe animal cruelty, but animals shot in the wild have had much better lives than many animals raised domestically.

I do not, but most people I know do.  And no, it's not immoral to shoot deer.  Their population has to be managed with hunting because we've removed their natural predators and their populations have exploded.

150 years ago, whitetail deer were relatively rare in northern Minnesota.  The dominant forest types in upland areas were mostly pines with minor components of oak, spruce, fir, maple, ash, birch, and aspen.  The deer stuck mostly to the small pockets of upland birch/aspen and maple/oak/elm/spruce forests which survived mostly in protected areas near lakes or on the edges of wetlands.

Instead, elk, caribou (reindeer), and moose dominated the pine forests and wetland forests (moose).  An abundance of wolves, black bears, and competition from the other large ungulates kept them at bay.

But we cut down all the pine forests and most of the hardwood forests as well, then burned the slash... which destroyed the seed source for the pines.  So what replaced it are vast expanses of birch and aspen and a huge increase in ash, maple, and fir.  The deer love these forests while the other ungulates suffer from the lack of plants that prefer pine forests.

The deer tend to perpetuate this because they love to eat pine seedlings.... and the fragmentation of the forests has driven elk, caribou, and moose away because now the wolves often have clear lines of sight from utility line clearings or roads to hunt the animals.  Only the deer can move fast enough and reproduce enough to keep up.

So we set a hunting quota and roughly 200,000 deer are shot and killed in 2 weeks in early November each fall.  Most families keep the meat and share it among family and friends.. making sausage, steaks, and other cuts to use throughout the winter.

Those that do it for sport typically donate the meat to foodshelves and often sell or donate the hide to make gloves and other clothing.

It's not like people go out to shoot deer and let them rot in the woods.  A few do that... and the DNR doesn't take kindly to people like that.

By the way... treated correctly, venison is delicious.  Especially in sausage with pork or in stews and soups.

If done right, it is fantastic.  Just more effort than I'm willing to personally apply.

Yes, though it has been a while. I've only shot coon and rabbit. I also went beaver hunting once.

No, but I of course fully support it against deer and other such dangerous varmints.
