Eh, Ryan's probably the best thing about that whole circus.  A reasonable decision.

Mark Sanchez getting injured literally saved Ryan's job. If he had been healthy, you know Rex would've ridden him straight out of town.

He should. He's still one of the best defensive minds in the game and a pretty good coach, despite what the sports media wants you to think. I'm not sure there'd be any better realistic options out there.

Compared to expectations, the Jets are having one heck of a season.  Keep him.

I'm not really sure why it's news that a HC of a 3-3 team "may return in 2014".  I did always assume that a) the Jets would lose 11 or 12 games in 2013, and that b) Idzik would prefer his own man.  now a) appears to be false, as the Jet defense has been top-5 caliber instead of top-16, which should be good enough for between 6 and 8 wins.

we saw a similar situation in Chicago, where Lovie was dumped after 10 wins in favor of a guy the GM preferred.  there is, as we all know, a huge trend towards offense in the NFL and most teams want offensive head coaches.  the Jets have been towards the bottom of the NFL in offense for a long while and this year is no different (Geno has been little or no better than Sanchez, though admittedly more fun to watch).

I'd be glad to have Lovie as the Jets coach.

Without an 1) owner and a 2) quarterback, you're doomed. An O-line is utterly necessary as well as either a very strong D-line or very strong LB corps, but they can only mask deficiencies such as a know-nothing dolt of an owner and a revolving door at QB for so long.

The Jets could do much worse than Rex. Better? Probably, but also a lot worse.

I'm sure you would- you're not a Jets fan. Rex stays.

If they want to keep Gino Smith as the QB (instead of draftin another QB) it will be better to have Marty Morniwheg still with the team --- so Rex stays by default, unless a new HC wants to keep Marty as OC.

Of course, a new HC candidate like Cowher might agree to keep Gino as the starter, instead of drafting his own QB - but that didn't work very well in Tampa Bay, where Schiano ran Freeman out of town for his own guy Glennon.  But basically, a new head coach will want his own pick at QB and doesn't want to be saddled with Gino Smith, who is showing some promise.

If they pick a new QB, it will be admitting Gino in the 2nd round was a mistake, and a wasted pick, and it will be another year of rebuilding and developing a new Rookie QB.

Or they could bring Tebow with Josh MCDaniels as the new HC!!!

When you score the best QB prospect as a 2nd round pick in any year, it won't be considered a mistake even if he doesn't pan out. I mean, it could be Vlad Ducasse, or a no. 5 on Sanchez.

normally I'd agree but the 2014 draft class at QB is going to be historically insane.  Bridgewater, Manziel, and Mariota are all way better prospects than Geno and Tajh Boyd probably is too.  add in AJ McCarron, depending what you think of him.

I honestly think Bridgewater or Boyd will be the best QB out of this year's class. Manziel's game won't translate all that well to the NFL. Mariota's might, it really depends on who he ends up with. McCarron....eh. It's hard to say, considering Nick Saban's Alabama team has yet to produce an NFL ready quarterback. Bridgewater is a multi-tool guy. He's like RGIII perhaps minus the extent to his mobility and with far more longevity, whereas Boyd is more of a young Michael Vick. I fully expect the Jaguars and Browns to end up with either Boyd or Bridgewater, and both teams will do very well with them next season.

Geno Smith will spend three consecutive seasons as a top five NFL QB at some point in his career. I'm not worried.

not really, he's league average or slightly above league average, and he plays every game.  just like a SP in baseball who throws 200 slightly-above league average innings, he has solid value.

Well, if we're drawing that analogy, in baseball, that pitcher would be worth $15 million per year on the free market. However, football and baseball are apples and oranges in that respect.

ok, and Flacco just signed a deal for $20M+ per year, no?

Which put him well above market for a merely average to above average QB in the NFL.

That's why I'm saying it's bad to compare MLB and the NFL, because the market in MLB is utterly different and would probably consider that a reasonable price.
