While some had been worried that the advent of the Fusion Party might overshadow the Republicans, especially with the election of a joint Fusion-Federalist ticket in 1808, there had, in truth, been little to worry about. James Monroe won in a close election facing John Quincy Adams who'd benefited from the backing of both other parties. Since his election, Monroe has acted pragmatically, adopting some nationalist policies, even overriding sectionalists in his own party, in order to build on Jefferson's Republican coalition. Meanwhile, things have been running smoothly, and while Monroe has vetoed bills he's found wasteful and contrary to his principles of states' rights, he has signed funding for some internal improvements. Now, in 1816, he seeks re-election. Despite popularity, a number of Republicans are hoping for a good showing at the caucus to raise their national profiles, win the Vice Presidential nomination, or even unseat Monroe. Nevertheless, Monroe and Gallatin intend to win re-election. The Federalists themselves have only a few really nationally known candidates. John Quincy Adams, Rufus King, and John Marshall. Nevertheless, they're hoping that one of them could potentially revitalize the party to beat Monroe. They haven't won true victory since 1789, though have managed to maintain relevance through consistently holding the Vice Presidency and positions of power. The Fusion Party, however, with the death of President Clinton, seems to have only one real candidate to coalesce around: his nephew, DeWitt Clinton.

I have Fall Break coming up, so I'll try to use that time to catch up on homework and work on compiling the results of all this crap.

There's surprisingly little support for Adams.
