Hillary Clinton runs for and wins the 2004 Presidential nomination and selects General Wesley Clark as her Vice-Presidential nominee.

Given how close John Kerry got IRL, does nominating Clinton put the Democrats over the top?

I think the only states to swing from the actual 2004 result would be Arkansas, Iowa, and Ohio, thus giving Clinton/Clark the election by a 285-253 margin. Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Nevada, and New Mexico would all come very, very, very close, but, I think, would ultimately go for Bush by a hair. Colorado, Florida, and Virginia would also come quite close, but not quite as much as the ones listed above.

Bush would have hammered Clinton relentlessly on her lack of experience, only three years after 9/11.  The country was still looking for a war President at that point. Flip Arkansas and New Hampshire, and the results stay essentially the same.

Hillary Clinton would've made it a 50/50 race IF she separates herself from the Democratic Party mindset of 2004. I believe she'd be smart enough to do just that and give Bush a real run for his money. Bush would paint her as the candidate of Sept.10,2001 as a way to tie her to her husband's foreign policy.
