My update on the update was well done. I'm surprised I remembered so much about it so quickly. Tongue

Mornin' folks!  It's time to finish Week 9 and get ready for a weekend.  Date 2 is 26 1/2 hours away.

J-Mann, I'm not doing too shabby.  I'm getting a really good education right now and I'll probably stay in OKC for a couple years after that.  I should be finished with school in early March.  I don't expect $50k, but $37-$40 is an average starting salary for a drafter.  My girlfriend is doing well, also.  We're very comfortable with each other already and have been talking since September 9.  Marriage is expected, a goal date has been tossed around, but most of all we're preaching time and patience.

Fraking goodness, kid... you're like my sister's friend who just got engaged after 3 months, except you're already set on it after a couple dates.  Marriage is expected!?!?!?!?!  WHAT THE FRAK!?!?!?  You don't even know the frakking woman yet...

Right here, right now... I will give the first person to respond 100:1 odds on a $1 bet that if Bushie gets engaged/married, it will either end in a broken-off engagement or divorce.  For the divorce, I'll give it 20 years.

Two, maybe three dates and a goal date for marriage is already "tossed around." If you don't feel badly for him, you're not human.

Inks, I'm 31 years old.  I know what I'm doing.  It's time you cease your haughty, prideful, arrogant, and condescending demeanor to someone who is older and wiser than you.

The marriage cycle repeats itself:

Denies any talks of marriage > she mentioned it briefly but 'patience'/'time' etc > marriage becomes a serious option > marriage becomes a certainty > date is set > date is moved forward > date is moved forward again > breakup

How come you ignore each and every piece of advice that I give you then?  Playing the age card can be a two edge sword. Who knew? Smiley

Oh yes, the idea of chatting up marriage with someone you hardly know is at once reckless, immature, and suggestive of a level of desperation - a reaching out for a life raft which unfortunately is not sea worthy. So this particular old man concurs with the comments as to which you take exception.

Torie, I'm not saying it's the most conventional approach.  What we're doing is only discussing marriage to the extent that it's an expectant wish.  We are both committed to seeing this through to marriage and are discussing what our household will be might be like.  We are taking a step of faith by calling it expected, but right now you and Inks are correct, it is nothing more than a wish or a dream right now.  We believe we will get married, but only God knows the future.  We are not planning anything yet except the dates for the remainder of 2013.  Perhaps the term expected was a little strong.  I should have used an expectant wish.

Also, Inks, while I am your elder and should be respected as such I do firmly believe that the younger can teach the elder.  I do take what you say to mind. Wading through the condescending tone.

Torie, I value your opinion deep down.  You have more experience than any of us, really.  I respect you as an elder.  The same goes for Grumps and Walter just to name a few.  I may ignore, but generally I want to find the right words to say, but forget about it amidst the struggles of daily life.  I don't ignore anybody on purpose.

The 2015 date is not a save the date kind.  It's only a goal.

Bushie, you're not wiser than Inks just because you're older. That's not much of an excuse at all. But it's your sideshow. Carry on.

Inks, I'm 31 years old.  I know what I'm doing.  It's time you cease your haughty, prideful, arrogant, and condescending demeanor to someone who is older and wiser than you.

You're a 31-year-old who's living with his parents, who doesn't have enough money to pay for his dates, food, porn, or anything.  You don't know what you're doing.  If you did know what you were doing, you wouldn't be in the position you're in.

And wiser than me?  No, Jeff... you are not wiser than me.  If you honestly think that, then no wonder you're in the state that you're in.

As for respecting my elders, I have no respect for you.  You are not deserving of my respect.  You are not deserving of respect from anyone.  You steal money from your parents and take advantage of them because you are a lazy, arrogant, prideful, entitled bum.  You seem to think your parents have some kind of duty to help you.  You should be homeless and bankrupt by now.  The only reason that you're not is because your parents are too naïve to see how disastrous your life is.  Furthermore, you couch all of this around God and Jesus, a truly despicable action that makes me have even less respect for you than the no respect I already had (yes I realize that's not logical, but that's some hyperbole to get the point across).

What good is thinking about marriage?  You are in the "honeymoon phase" (ironic, I know), and now that you're talking about marriage, you're setting this idea in your mind, and we know how your mind works.  When you think about something, it's pretty much all you think about.  Like the little monkey.

Jeff, this is your brain:

Yes, sometimes you do some backflips when you get distracted, but the rest of the time, you're just focused on banging the cymbals.  And those cymbals are symbols (you like what I did there) for whatever goal you have at the moment.  One day, they may be silver, the next day gold, the next day brass, but the end is all the same.  Look at how much you've talked about "your kids" or CADD or Blondie since Allison came along.  Allison is the newest cymbal of the month.

The problem is that this cymbal can be worse than the others, because engagement and marriage are a lot more serious than CADD or sponsor kids.

You went from not rushing things to talking about marriage.  If I was dating someone and they started talking about marriage within the first 6 months, let alone week, I'd be like... "OK... STAGE 4 CLINGER ALERT!"

Get your freaking life together man, before you really frak it up!

I, for one, am thankful he stopped all this dribble about CAD. How boring was that arc of The Update? These love affairs are much better for entertainment purposes.

Yes, I know, it was terribly boring, and sure, there was nothing wrong with getting a girlfriend, but I predicted that this would happen!  The girlfriend per se is fine, but Bushie with a girlfriend leads to wedding bells in a matter of weeks (or at least proposed wedding bells... I'm not sure he'll ever actually get to that point).

It is early October, so I think it's time to give an overall update of where I'm at in various areas.

First off, weight.  I am still in the high 250's, fluctuating between 257 and 259, but I am getting to the point where I need a belt at the current size.  I am not too far from dropping a size in my jeans.  I currently wear a size 40, but am very close to digging out my 38's.  My mother has complimented me that I am looking much better and my doctor has commended me for losing weight since May.

Second, CADD, I am still on track to be finished in late February/early March right before Spring Break.  I am doing well in CADD and continue to excel.  I spent three days this week going back over my recent drawings, doctoring them up and getting them more presentable.

Third, love, Allison and I are doing great.  We are very happy together.  We have gotten ahead of ourselves in the conversation department, but it doesn't hurt to speculate what may happen down the road.  When your driving, you not only have to assess what's immediately in front of you, but you have to scan what's going on down the road that you will encounter soon.  You can't focus your eyes too long on one or the other otherwise you'll crash.  I know, bad analogy, but it's the best one I've got.  The main thing is we're happy.

Nice work on the weight, although scanning this thread tells me that you still struggle with eating healthy on a regular basis. Jeff, it's not as hard as you think ... nor is it very expensive. I find that with two people in the house, I can save hundreds (if not more) each month by cooking at home.

Baking is a pretty healthy option -- most meats can be put in a baking dish with some olive oil, onions, tomatoes and seasoning, covered in foil and baked for an hour and come out great. Also, if you hadn't followed my advice before and bought a crock pot / slow cooker, you should. Even if you're swamped with your busy schedule of television watching, you can throw a few things in every morning and have a really good meal ready at night.

Keep working on the weight. A guy your height ought to be significantly slimmer -- take it in small increments and build on the success. Shoot for 255, then 250, then 245. You'll be amazed at how quickly you can make progress if you stick to it.

I'm happy you're getting some education -- as others have mentioned, CADD in and of itself won't guarantee a job, but it's a start. Do you graduate with a degree or a certificate? What sorts of jobs will you look for exactly, and who employs someone skilled only in CADD?

I've managed to poke around enough of the last few pages to see that your one-date relationship is already resulting in the word "marriage" being batted around. For all the good it'll do: stop with that nonsense. If marriage is an ultimate life goal for you, great. That's one thing. Plugging a person into that equation when you've known each other for less than a month is a bad idea. Haven't you learned from previous experiences?
