Nothing showcases a vibrant capitalist economy like the television or radio ad for a local business. Bad production values, weird gimmicks, ah.. glorious.

Unfortunately the stagnant Melbourne economy just doesn't produce such priceless in-jokes as often or as regularly as they did stateside. All I could find really was this garden shop that shut down a while back. The guy would wear a pink tutu as the gimmick. Oh, the zaniness! He also has a distinct voice and the catchphrase "Hello hello!"

It's just not the same as Ohio.

What are your local favorites from past and present?

From Toledo, this guy comes to mind. The editing on one of his radio ads was choppy once causing it to sound like he said "turtle." Ever since then he has ended every single ad with "turtle." Weird, stupid things like that make me nostalgic.

That one is great Smiley My partner has just informed me of this local classic: Ken Bruce has gone mad.

Feel good naturally! Unbelievably this commercial still airs.

Oh, and of course Al's Car Lot and his Walking Dead ads. "Yo whattaya doin', you're dead!"

My favorite one from the Atlanta area is "Wolfman and Donna Gallery Furniture"

And this is my favorite of all time (that I know about because it went viral)

Naturally 'small' or 'local' business has been crushed out of existence by large corporations.  Capitalism reduces choice, opportunity, diversity, and creativity.

Auto dealers have always had the most memorable commercials.  Westway Ford in Irving is still selling cars and cranking out really bad commercials.

Local furniture commercials are usually pretty good.  This one's not a TV ad, but the side of a bus, especially in New York City, is always a good spot for local advertising.
