I post on this forum until I fall asleep. Sometimes I fart in my sleep which wakes me up so I post here again until I fall asleep. In fact, it's what I'm doing here right now.

I'd say that farting while asleep is a fine description of your posting contributions. Have you ever sleep-farted so odorously that you expelled partially digested matter from your stomach out your oral cavity, professor bag?

No, I sleep very good.

Not even a thunderstorm can wake me up.

A good book. Christie (Agatha) works best.

Occasionally I'll take unisom/benadryl... but that stuff causes crazy anxiety and all kinds of other unsavory things if you take them for too long.

Melatonin is probably better if you're having trouble sleeping.  Melatonin and some peppermint tea with honey 45-60 minutes before bed should help.  (I think melatonin takes a bit longer than other sleep aids because it's natural and your natural sleep/tiring process is usually an ordeal that lasts a couple hours before you actually go to bed).

Also.. peppermint has long been known to soothe your stomach.  The chemicals in peppermint oil kinda numb it.. and a lot of people have trouble going to sleep because their digestive system is acting up.

It's funny because I fell asleep at around 11:30pm and woke up at 4am wide awake and now I'm posting advice on how to sleep....

Another excellent thing for sleeping:

Make sure you have vigorous physical activity during the day.. especially in the afternoon, if you can.

And... routine routine routine.  Nothing helps you fall asleep better than having a consistent routine.  If you go to bed every night at midnight, your body will take the cue and you'll find yourself tiring shortly before midnight even if you weren't particularly active that day.

That is all excellent advice, Snowguy. I had never heard of the antihistamine/anxiety connection from another person. I used to regularly take antihistamines recreationally which I eventually tied to weird feelings and panic attacks the next day. Lowering the dose solved that pretty well, though.

Disclaimer: Recreational antihistamine use is a bad idea and most people do not enjoy it at all. Kids.

I've taken diphenhydramine. I only do that when I'm not tired and I need to get some good sleep for the next day (at least five hours, preferably 6-8). Otherwise, I don't see the point in taking anything. Most of the time, I just go along with my sleep deprivation.

When I first got on mids a million years ago I used them regularly.  After years of feeling like sh**t I stopped that and just sleep when I'm tired, if possible (it usually is) and suffer through if it's not.

WWII documentaries are very effective for me.
