As the election of 1852 is not so important, the following scenario has never been discussed:

The Whigs nominate incumbent President Millard Fillmore who succeeded to the presidency in 1850 after President Taylor died in office. President Fillmore defeats General Scott at the convention in June 1852 and faces Democrat Franklin Pierece in the November election.

How turns the election out? In RL Pirece defeated Scott by a wide margin. But I assume Fillmore to have better chances as he and many supportes in the South for signing the compromise of 1850. He might also win his native state of New York.

Post maps if you like; you choose the Fillmore's VP (Pirece ran with William R. King). Everything else remains the same.

^^ Looks good. That would have changed history significantly. The Whigs had likely existed longer.

While the President finds a good deal of support in the South, many Northern Whigs are not willing to support his reelection, resulting in a strengthening of Hale's Free Soil candidacy.

Fmr. Sen. Franklin Pierce (D-NH)/ Sen. William R. King (D-AL)     49%   224

Pres. Millard Fillmore (W-NY) / Gen. Winfield Scott (W-NJ)           44%     59
