Des Moines obviously. Even though it's not as big as other cities it still has what they have, more urban, more scene, more indie. You can still go to shows and indie movies and hipster places, and live in a reasonably dense environment instead of a f**king disgusting nightmarish sh!thole with f**king terrible weather to boot.

But you do this?

And consider this also means you'd prefer Michele Bachmann's district to where I am. Tongue

My beloved Orange County obviously. Incidentally the OC has three cities (Santa Ana, Anaheim, and Irvine) larger than Des Moines.

Believe it or not Orange County is light red, but starting to trend.

Des Moines, I'd rather not have to spend a fortune to keep my family in a decent house.

The forum has an increased emphasis on an area's political views that most people IRL don't take into account when making a preference.

Des Moines, for a bit of a change (OC's weather is fairly similar to where I live in Australia, plus I wouldn't miss the beach)

Fun fact: Orange County is substantially denser than Des Moines. I don't think I could handle the traffic, prices, or relentlessly sunny weather of life behind the Orange Curtain though. Medium sized cities are the way to go.

Des Moines' density is brought down by the fact that it includes some mostly undeveloped areas within the city limits and an airport that takes a somewhat significant percentage of its land area. The actual residential areas are the right type of dense, not the artificial OC type with sprawl everywhere.

I can't think of anything good about OC at all. Period. People who scream "but there's more to areas than politics!" miss the point. Name something good about OC. And no the utterly nightmarish weather is not one of them.

Proximity to the world class amenities of Los Angeles. Right by the ocean. Far more diverse number of restaurants and recreational activities. Hell, the OC cities (and for some cities each district) each have a distinctive character which serve to make it far less monolithic then Des Moines.
