I am more liberal than my family, most of them are Windjammer/Mung Beans Democrats. My friends are mostly similar ideologies to myself (there is no one to my left.) However, a couple are more populist leaning. They're all middle class, so leftist economics is ubiquitous.

Using the common American definitions of "liberal" as left and "conservative" as right, I'm more "liberal" than my family, who are pretty much typical liberal/"progressive" Democrats. Believe it or not, though, I'm actually more conservative than most of my friends, who are mostly anarchists or revolutionary socialists or other people who make me look like Mitt Romney.

To the left of them. My parents are both working class populists (and can be found espousing both leftist and rightist populism - socon socialists essentially) and my older brother, from what I can tell, is a liberal.

Depends from the issues. Maybe overall slightly to their right. Obviously, I'm to the left of most of my elder family members on social issues, as is to be expected.

As for friends, I'm generally "the official leftist" of the group.

It really depends on the issue and the family member, For example, I'm to the left of both of my parents when it comes to abortion, along with being to the left of my dad when it comes to drug laws, but I'm also to the right of my mom when it comes to smoking bans. Interestingly, the most right-wing and left-wing members of my family are siblings. My maternal grandfather is a Tea Party conservative, while his sister is a member of the Socialist Party.

Fiscally:
Family: About the same; we all have moderately centre-right views
Friends: Well to the right

Socially:
Family: Slightly more conservative. I'm a bit more conservative on divorce and gun rights, but that's about it
Friends: Waaaaayyyy more conservative as expected

Foreign:
Family: Somewhat more liberal.
Friends: Way to the left. For some reason all my friends want to intervene in Syria, Libya, Egypt etc. One even wants to invade Russia over gay rights.

My mom and her side of the family are too dumb to have any real political ideology, but I assume I vote for more Conservaitve candidates than they do.

My dad's side is big-L-Liberal, but mostly on economic issues. It's the typical union family.

More liberal generally.  Though my brother is probably about the same.

I'm fiscally to the left and socially to the right of almost all of my friends, fiscally and socially slightly to the left of most of my family, fiscally and socially similar to my mother, and fiscally similar and socially to the left of my uncle. The foreign policy views of the people I know are all over the place.

Family: Slightly more conservative than my parents, much more liberal than my older sister, about the same as my sister IIRC.
Friends: Similarish, maybe slightly more right-wing, but most of them are pretty apathetic towards politics.

Socially to the right is largely a given but for maybe one of my friends. Likely economically to the right for a number as well. This is for friends, for the record.

At once more liberal, and more conservative, than them all (well most of them).

To the left. My dad is starting to sour on Obama from the left as I already have, while Mom remains in his grip.

As for my friends (or at least the ones that have concrete political opinions, which is maybe 2/3 of them), I'm probably to their fiscal left and on the social mean (that is, more conservative than the "liberals", but a good bit more liberal than the conservatives--I live in a rather Atlas blue area).

Family: Left to them on virtually all issues

Friends: About the same economically and slightly to the right on social issues (especially abortion)

Fiscally:
Family: Except for my union loving sister, we're all probably about the same.
Friends: I'm to the right of most of 'em

Socially:
Family: Equal to my union loving (and neohippy) sister...maybe even a little to her left.  WAY left of everybody else
Friends: Overall, probably right in the middle....maybe a slight lean to the left.

To the left of just about everyone in my family, both fiscally and socially.  I think one or two of my cousins might be about where I am, and there are a couple other Democrats, but they're more centrist.  My family is majority-Republican.

Friends are more of a mixed bag.  Pretty much all of them are some form of socially liberal, and most (but not all) of them are left-of-center on economic issues, too.  There's a mix of libertarians, pragmatists, True Leftists, and everything in between, which is both a wide range of views and a narrow range at the same time.

I'm weird. My family is pretty religious, but Democratic. I'm more to the right of them on economic issues, but far left on social/religious issues.

With my friends, I'm pretty much to the left of them. They're still being fed Fran by their conservative parents, so they think of themselves as republicans and me as a "libural".

I'm liberal socially and moderately liberal economically, and I'm generally similar politically to my immediate family.  Perhaps a tad to the right of my mom and sister and a tad to the left of my dad, although I may be the most libertarian of the four.

My extended family is diverse.  My mom has three sisters, and one of them is very liberal.  Another is a conservative-leaning libertarian, and she is somewhat apolitical.  My mom's other sister is a staunch conservative who listens to Rush Limbaugh and wakes up to Fox News.  She also likes Ann Coulter and Michael Savage.

My friends can be both liberal and conservative.

Definitely to the left of my family, who are pretty right-wing on social issues (they're from Russia, and then vote GOP in the US, so...), except for some very progressive cousins. As for my friends, it's more difficult to say; most of them are Republican but not very tuned-in to politics, making judging their opinions rather difficult (I would hazard a guess saying they're slightly to my economic left but my social right; still quite libertarian on the whole, just not quite as far as I am). The few who are tuned-in (none so much as me, we're speaking relatively), tend to be out to my left; most are just standard leftist/progressive fare, with maybe one or two "high school socialists". But it goes away, because people who discuss politics with me end up having opinions more similar to my own over time.

I'm socially to the right of my friends, but more economically centrist (in relative terms, lol) in comparison. Most are flat tax hacks and/or staunch big-L Libertarians. My mum as mentioned in another thread is a social liberal Conservative, so to her right, while my dad is a UKIP-leaning right-populist, soo.. that's hard to classify. Probably to his left.

My family members are mostly far-right Republicans.
