Added a visit to SC with my road trip there. There are 2192 counties visited in 49 states, and 10 states (+DC) where all the counties have been visited.

Red for residences. Dark blue for overnight stay. Light blue for intentional destinations. Green for drive through (including meal stops). Yellow for train, boat or airport only.

Here's the state level view.

90% (resided): IL, IA, MA, MN, NE, NY, TX
80% (6 or more visits): AL, CA, CO, CT, DE, DC, FL, GA, IN, KS, KY, ME, MD, MI, MO, NH, NJ, NC, OH, PA, RI, SD, TN, UT, VA, WI, WV
70% (5 visits): AR, MS, OK, VT, WA, WY
60% (4 visits): AZ, ID, MT, ND, SC
50% (3 visits): NV
40% (2 visits): LA, NM, OR
30% (1 visit): HI
not yet visited: AK
If blue, then all counties have been visited in the state

I think I've already disclosed the states I've been to in this thread.

If I had to break them down into counties, it'll look like this:

California: Alameda, Marin, San Francisco

New Jersey: Hudson (only on the waters surrounding Liberty Island)

New York: Kings, New York, Queens

Utah: Salt Lake (airport layover)

Washington: King (airport layover)

I've been to the following states. I have counted layovers, but not Idaho, where my plane once had to stop to refuel. I couldn't be bothered to list the counties.

Alaska (3)
Arizona (11)
California (55)
Colorado (9)
Florida (29)
Illinois (20)
Maine (4)
Maryland (10)
Massachusetts (11)
Michigan (16)
Minnesota (10)
Montana (3)
Nevada (6)
New Hampshire (4)
New York (29)
Rhode Island (4)
South Carolina (9)
Texas (38)
Vermont (3)
Washington (12)
Wyoming (3).

That makes for a total of 289 electoral votes, if I didn't count wrongly.

None (lol).

I'd love to travel a lot, and would love to travel in the US but unfortunately anxieties and financial difficulties make it unlikely to ever let it happen.

In terms of cities, it's honestly not much:

Atlanta
Nashville
Knoxville
Chattanooga
Louisville
Huntsville
Birmingham
Montgomery
Mobile

Uhh yeah that's it. Also Quintana Roo in Mexico, I guess.

I completed visiting all the counties in IA. There are 2226 counties visited in 49 states, and 11 states (+DC) where all the counties have been visited.

Red are places I've lived, green is exclusively an airport visit, and blue are actual visits. The darker they are the more times I've visited. I'll be adding Arkansas by the end of the year, but that's it as of now.

Not really a set standard for the colors aside from just darker the more time spent there.

Following up on a thread from last year:

Red >50% = states I've lived in
Red >30% = states my parents have lived in since I moved out
Blue >50% = states I remember spending at least a night in
Blue >30% = states I've been told I have spent a night in (but I was too young to remember)
Green >50% = states I've visited by road but haven't spent a night in
Green >30% = states I've switched planes through but otherwise have never been in

I'll turn Arkansas Blue >50% on Saturday, which, by my count, will be the 30th state I'll have spent at least a night in.  By the end of the year, I hope to have Washington State Blue >50%, South Carolina Green >50%, and North Carolina Blue > 50% Smiley

If I don't end up getting the flights to Panamá I'm hoping to buy today, my backup is to turn Tennessee and Kentucky Blue 50% and West Virginia Green 50% for spring break.  I also hope to turn Washington state Blue 50% this year, too Smiley

Update!  Using the same key, but minus the "my parents have lived there since I moved out", because, meh, I haven't lived there.

Slowly things are falling into place! Smiley

I just came back from my first big train trip, so I've added that to my map.

[Also, here's some advice.  If you go to visit someone in April and you e-mail them in January, follow up in March, so they don't forget you're coming.  And make sure the wife has told the husband in the first place.  And if you're going to text the husband out of the blue that you've arrived in town, asking him to leave his office to come pick you up works better when it's not April Fools' Day.]

Anyhow, here's my map:

Red = lived (I substituted Roanoke County, when I actually lived in the City of Salem)
Blue = slept there in a building
Green = visited or passed through
Yellow = layover / never left the airport

The visited islands in TX seem strange. Were those really both cases of fly in for the day and fly out later?

Yes.  I went through a phase in my career when I was doing a lot of short business trips.  The trip near Waco included a visit to a potential building site and a meeting with the city government.  We were in and out the same day.

Something similar happened with suburbs near Dallas and Denver.

Also, I once drove up with the groom's family to a wedding at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.  The round trip was close to 20 hours (I think), but it was all done in one day.

Brutal drive. I've done 1200 when I was in my 20's and 30's but nothing that long since.

I take it that the Dallas trip was through Love Field, since otherwise you were in Tarrant, too.

I don't remember, but I'm guessing I flew through DFW.  I'll add Tarrant to any future maps.

You can also add Logan KS to your maps since I-70 clips a corner of it.

Since my last update I spent a few weeks going through a detailed analysis of all the counties I've been to based on logs, tickets, photos, and oral history. It actually dropped my total slightly, but what remains has gone through a vetting so that it relies on more than my best guess.

I completed visiting all the counties in PA and NY. There are 2213 counties visited in 49 states, and 13 states (+DC) where all the counties have been visited.

Red for residences (at least 2 months including mail received). Dark blue for overnight stay (4 or more continuous hours of sleep not in a moving vehicle). Light blue for intentional destinations. Green for drive through (including meal stops). Yellow for train, boat or airport only.
