Cropped from mob-rule.

My plan to visit Mt. Davis this fall fell through because of how unusually rainy it was and how it would specifically rain every Saturday. I did visit Youngstown, upgrading Mahoning OH from cyan to blue.

I just realized something very depressing - I don't think I've been out of state a single time this entire year. Even worse, my only vacation last year was a tepid one to Logan OH (highest point in Ohio, novelty value) and Montgomery OH. Year before I know I visited Adams PA. Sandusky county was also recent.

Baltimore is from 2014, Philly from '10, DC from '09 (the White House was walled off because someone from Australia was visiting), and northern Michigan from '08 when I played on the beach of lake Michigan. I yearn to travel more, but we're too poor to do anything.

Darker blue is "Important" counties I've been to at least 30-50 times +, and darkest blue is home.

I'm curious how you got to Curry county OR without passing through anything nearby.

Also, if you quote my post you'll see how I posted your image. Rather than posting the web page with the image, I opened the image of the map on that page in a new tab. Then i copied the URL of the image into the img tags in the post.

I'll post my map in a little while, but what are we doing when we don't remember which route we took? I know there is googlemaps function, but often there are several options which involve different counties. And the best routes may not be the same now as they were at the time of a particular trip. Are we coloring counties based on the most likely route, or what?

I'd recommend using the googlemaps choice for the route, unless you know that you took a specific side trip. That's the way I have done it. On occasion I have discovered that a route had changed since my travel and I revised my maps accordingly.

Florida is barely much of anything... I drove from Gulf Shores, Alabama to Pensacola, Florida. Like 50 minutes there and 50 minutes back.

Not counting pure transit (e.g., just a rest area stop on a highway or airport layover). In all of them it is, at least, a lunch in town or an overnight hotel stay, usually a lot more.

NY: NY (lived), Kings, Queens, Richmond, Bronx, Nassau (lived),  Suffolk, Westchester, Clinton. Not certain about Rockland and/or Orange.

NJ: Hudson (lived), Essex, Union, Middlesex, Mercer. Not certain about Bergen.

CT: Hartford, New Haven, Fairfield. Not certain about Litchfield

RI: Providence

MA: Suffolk, Norfolk, Middlesex, Plymouth, Essex, Berkshire, Hampden.

VT: Chittenden

NH: Hillsborough

PA: Philadelphia, Montgomery, Lehigh, Allegheny. Not certain about Lancaster.

OH: Cuyahoga

IN: Monroe

IL: Cook

WI: Milwaukee

MD: Montgomery, Prince George's

DC

VA: Fairfax, Arlington; City of Alexandria

GA: Fulton

FL: Hillsborough, Pinellas, Orange, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, Monroe. Not certain about Broward (I certainly ate near the county line, but not sure on which side).

LA: Orleans

TX: Dallas, Travis, El Paso

CA: San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Alameda and some county north of SF I am no longer sure of.

I have driven in pretty much all the states I have been to! Fortunately in California I have only been to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park.  Never have experienced Los Angeles or Bay Area traffic.

Best states for driving in were Montana, Wyoming and Utah. St. Louis has been the been the easiest metro area to drive through.

Georgia was by far the worst. Traffic in Atlanta metro made me literally angry and people up in the north drove way to fast and trucks driving very slow in the right lane.  Never experienced anything like it.

Arkansas, Kentucky and Oklahoma I have only driven through and never spent any significant time in.

When you next drive through OK I'd recommend a stop at the memorial for Federal building bombing.

I've always liked road trips, especially when I could get off the interstates. In 2007 I really started to track my counties more carefully, and then started to look for opportunities to visit new ones. Last year I decided that seeing them all was a goal that I could reasonably set. There are currently 3142 county equivalents by the Census definition so I'm not even 2/3 of the way through them yet, though I should hit that 2/3 mark by the end of the year.

Here's the picture at the end of 2018. There are 2130 counties visited in 49 states, and 10 states (+DC) where all the counties have been visited.
