When I "won the electoral college":
-Not counting layovers: November 2017, visiting California
-Counting layovers: February 2017, visiting Texas (not a layover, but additional layovers made my first visit to Texas when I eclipsed 270)

90% Red: Lived
70% Red: Frequented
50% Red: Been there once
30% Red: Driven through
Green: Airport layover (Boston and St. Louis)

Just for the record: my travels are enough that they could be President.

Chronologically, the tipping point is Illinois.

But going from East-West with the expected returns, the tipper is probably Nevada, but the closest is Pennsylvania since I only saw Philly and Chester Co. areas.

Not that well traveled. I don't like traveling either, and when I do, I like the south better.

At long last I've picked up my 49th state. I'm now up to 1880 counties visited (I'm using all of Molokai to show tiny Kalawao county).

Red for residences. Dark blue for overnight stay. Light blue for intentional destinations. Green for drive through (including meal stops).

Here's the state level view.

90% (resided): IL, IA, MA, MN, NE, NY, TX
80% (6 or more visits): CA, CO, CT, DE, DC, FL, GA, IN, KS, KY, ME, MD, MI, MO, NH, NJ, NC, OH, PA, RI, SD, TN, UT, VA, WI, WV
70% (5 visits): AL, VT, WA, WY
60% (4 visits): AZ, ID, MS, MT, ND, OK
50% (3 visits): NV, SC
40% (2 visits): AR, NM, OR
30% (1 visit): HI, LA
not yet visited: AK

I live in Iowa.  I have been to Illinois, driving to Chicago, as well as a drive to Moline.  I visit relatives in Kirksville, Missouri, as well as driven through Missouri to go to see my grandma in a retirement-home in Lewisville, TX.  I also entered Kansas on my way to Texas to visit friends.  I drove through Oklahoma.  On my return trip, I went through Arkansas to see the Ozarks.  It was an amazing sight.  I also been in the south-western tip of Wisconsin.

Following up on a thread from last year:

Red >50% = states I've lived in
Red >30% = states my parents have lived in since I moved out
Blue >50% = states I remember spending at least a night in
Blue >30% = states I've been told I have spent a night in (but I was too young to remember)
Green >50% = states I've visited by road but haven't spent a night in
Green >30% = states I've switched planes through but otherwise have never been in

I'll turn Arkansas Blue >50% on Saturday, which, by my count, will be the 30th state I'll have spent at least a night in.  By the end of the year, I hope to have Washington State Blue >50%, South Carolina Green >50%, and North Carolina Blue > 50% Smiley

If I don't end up getting the flights to Panamá I'm hoping to buy today, my backup is to turn Tennessee and Kentucky Blue 50% and West Virginia Green 50% for spring break.  I also hope to turn Washington state Blue 50% this year, too Smiley

Update!  Using the same key, but minus the "my parents have lived there since I moved out", because, meh, I haven't lived there.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, but this is a rough approximation. It's an odd map.

Did you fly into Idaho County? Otherwise, the only way to get there is to go through Montana or another county in Idaho.

I was in Hells Canyon. I'm realizing I should have selected Adams County too.

My trip to FL went through AL making that my 6th visit. The trip used US highways that added a number of new counties, bringing my total to 1941. That makes 60% of the counties by my 60th birthday.

The lower Mississippi states are on the agenda for the week of the 4th of July.
