Governor Eliot Spitzer says he will appoint New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn to the Senate to succeed President- elect Hillary Clinton. Many experts, as well as those in Congress believe that if Quinn wishes to finish Clinton's term after the 2010 elections she will need to dodge a challenge both from the GOP and from a Long Island/Upstate Democrat.

The DGA endorsed Lynch and unfortunately for Hassan she didn't get the support she needed from EMILY's list or Planned Parenthood... She was also under pressure to switch to the Senate race, a primary which she would have won, but she would have faced a very uphill climb against Gregg.

BTW, like 2008 the NH Governor's race is currently a Tossup as Lynch exited office relatively popular, while Ayotte has middling approvals and some in the state are accusing her of focusing more on a possible 2012 Presidential run...
