Olbermann's new show on ESPN2 in specific. Will have a role with ABC in "political years".

What the heck?

EDIT: Now that I've had some time to digest it, I think I get why he's leaving. Nate doesn't like the pundit life and risked becoming that by staying on full-time as an analyst in non-election years, and he still gets to further his name brand at a place like ESPN in an area where he gained his fame.

Disney/ABC, unlike FoX, NBC, and Time-Warner, has no dedicated news channel.

2014 will be a very political year.

Surprise. Incompetant pundits don't like people which make them look bad.

Most people prefer to reduce politics to "Candidate X is so wonderful that he could never be defeated" or "Candidate X is so horrible that no thinking person could ever vote for him".

Nate Silver developed a model of predicting electoral politics that depends upon statistics and probability more than anything else, effectively taking personality out of political prediction.  Liberals often can't imagine how Louisiana could vote for David Vitter, and right-wingers can't imagine how Ohio could vote for Sherrod Brown -- after all, to the other side they are both 'evil' or 'ludicrous' extremists.

Silver had a running feud with Politico after making them look like the fools they are during last year's election.
It's not surprising that these hacks are trying to present his departure from NYT in the most negative light possible.

I actually think that says more about the rest of the NYT staff than it does about Silver. I think it's fine that they cover politics in a different way than Silver and I don't think that needs to change.  But apparently they saw him as a threat. Otherwise, why would they care about his math based approach to politics confined to a single webpage? I don't think the perception was justified.

The baseball blogosphere this week is highly amused because the reports of resentment on the part of NYT reporters is EXACTLY like the pissed off baseball scouts who disliked the sabermetrics movement when it became mainstream in the early 2000's (aka Moneyball). It's understandable given that they perceive their livelihood is being threatened, but that's creative destruction for ya.

The one person who was right was disliked by the people who put out pointless inaccurate drivel as a career... In other news water is wet.
