Inspired by https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=175792.0

Definitions:

Discrimination in voting:  The gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, etc. of a candidate changing the likelihood of your voting for or against him or her, ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL.

"Negative" discrimination:  Discriminating against one or more groups that had or has restricted rights compared to other groups, including non-whites, women, non-WASPS, LGBT persons, non-Protestants, etc.

"Positive" discrimination:  Discriminating in favor of a person in one or more of the above listed groups.

"Meta"-discrimination:  Discriminating in a primary or candidate selection based on how you expect others to discriminate in a general election.  E.g. favoring a Hispanic in South Texas or an Orthodox Jew in South Brooklyn, or against gays and blacks in Mississippi, or in favor of gays in Marin County, or against transgender persons and atheists pretty much anywhere besides San Francisco, etc. etc.  OR, supporting individuals in certain groups not to win that particular election but to point to nationally/in the future for identity-politics reasons, even though you don't care personally.  For example, wanting to be the first major party to nominate a woman or Hispanic for President, in order to increase the appeal towards women or Hispanics in the future.

Probably a slight skew for positive discrimination towards women. I'm not sure why, but I won't pretend I'm immune to it.

Yes, to be honest. I try to support people who have a background similar to mine (basically -- Jews or people of Russian/ex-Soviet origin) even if another candidate exists who could represent me better. In Republican primaries, I do tend to support women/minorities as part of a "meta" discrimination thing; it makes Democratic claims that Republicans are racist/sexist even more plainly untrue.

I don't vote, though, so I guess I don't discriminate in my voting habits, since I have none.

I can see myself meta-discriminating positively, but not just in primaries.  For example prior to Obama, I wanted to see more moderate black prominent political figures displace nuts like Sharpton.  And really in 2008 if I would have voted for Obama if I hadn't had a strong preference for McCain or anyone else since I thought it'd be good for the country to have a black president.  Or is that just plain positive discrimination?
