The presidential election of 2016 was one of the most exciting and historic in recent memory.

The Republicans nominated for the White House Congressman Oldiesfrieak of Michigan, a congressman representing the suburbs outside Detroit and one of the few black Republicans serving in the House. Having been elected to the House in 2014 (and explicitly made it clear that he was not a 'tea party' candidate), he sought to double down on his image as a youthful, 'New Republican' by choosing Jerry of Arkansas, a recently elected U.S. Senator (having defeated Mark Pryor in 2014) as his running-mate. The two ran on a platform of cutting down on non-essential spending, education reform, and, for the Republicans, a kind of social liberalism not seen since the party's nomination of Dwight Eisenhower.

The Democrats on the other hand nominated Kentucky Senator TNF, another product of the class of 2014, elected after defeating Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in a close race. TNF, a firebrand populist, contrasted his populism and leftism by selecting as his running mate a retired general who had been deeply involved in the Iraq War, General Mung Beans of California. Mung Beans thus became the first Korean-American selected for Vice President, and the first general on a major party ticket since the 1950s. The TNF-GMB ticket ran on a platform of labor law reform, a national industrial policy, and trade policy reform.

The election, thus, became a fight between an Eisenhower Republican and a Truman Democrat, and the results reflected this monumental shift in the electoral college on Election night.

When the dust settled, it was clear that Congressman Oldiesfreak had won the electoral vote by the barest of margins--271 to Senator TNF's 267. Though a number of states were still close, it was also clear that Senator TNF had won the popular vote, 51-48. In his concession speech, the Senator from Kentucky pledged to work with the incoming administration in 'solving the problems with plague our great nation.'

In a close election, the Populist ticket, a unity ticket between the progressive and reactionary factions of party, was able to combine the South and Rust Belt to win over the Moderate Establishment ticket of Jerry and war hero General Mung Beans.

TNF (Populist-Kentucky)/Cathcon (Populist-Michigan) 275 electoral votes
Jerry (Moderate Establishment-Arkansas)/General Mung Beans (Moderate Establishment-California) 263 electoral votes

Senator TNF (S-KY) - Governor Jerry (M-AR) (Popular Front): 332

President Supersonic (C-TN) - Vice President Cathcon (C-MI) (Conservative Party): 182

Unpledged Electors (NA/NA): 24

The incumbent Conservative Party ticket Supersonic/Cathcon is crippled by an economic downturn a year before the election, not to mention grassroots disaffection from evangelicals and religious groups, however the Conservative internal opposition cannot mobilise an efficient primary challenge. The other American parties, the Socialists and Moderate Party of the USA agree to form a popular anti-Conservative front after losing the previous two presidential elections due to a left wing vote split. An unpledged elector slate in the southern states hurts the Conservative Party but it's TNF's populist left wing rhetoric which resonates with the white working class that swings the election, Jerry, the Moderate Party vice-presidential candidate keeps suburbanites and centrists on board the Popular Front ticket. President Supersonic cannot appeal to the South, but Vice President Cathcon does manage to stem the Popular Front's efforts in the Midwest though these efforts are in vain.

The left-wing ticket of MCC/TNF has little appeal to moderate voters, leading to a landslide victory for the relatively moderate Cathcon/Supersonic ticket.

Senator Cathcon (R-MI)/Senator Supersonic (R-TN) - 357 EVs, 54.5%
Congressman Must Crush Capitalism (S-CA)/Governor Maxwell (L-OK) - 181 EVs, 43.2%
Others - 0 EVs, 2.3%

The original Democratic nominees, President Mung Beans and Vice President Clinton1996, were unpopular and barely won the Democratic nomination. They were trailing heavily against the powerhouse ticket of Moderate Conservative Senators Cathcon and Supersonic. As a result, strongly spoken Congressman of California Must Crush Capitalism, a four term Socialist Party member, became the main competition of Cathcon. In the strangest turn of all in this election cycle, he was joined on his ticket by outraged Republican Governor Maxwell, who switched to the libertarian party in joining MCC's ticket. Their numbers were weak the whole season, trailing Cathcon by over 30 until the debates, but after that they started to surge but they didn't have enough time, losing by a fairly large 12 points and Over 170 EVs.

Closest states were New Hampshire (50.1-49.9 Cathcon) and Minnesota (50.5-49.5 MCC). Surprisingly close states are Oklahoma (55-45 Cathcon - home state effect Maxwell).

We have both problems in primary. California is the pure toss up, a bit Florida 2000 so I will probably win this state because of the democratic governor Tongue.

Governor Maxwell (R-Okla.) runs at the head of a unity ticket with former moderate Democrat turned independent, Congressman Windjammer of Montana. The two face off against the populist Democratic Senator from Kentucky, TNF, and his running-mate, Working Families Party Congressman MCC from New York.

Maxwell/Windjammer defeats TNF/MCC 276-262.

Ideological incoherence on the Republican side combined with TNF's ability to appeal to blue collar and rural voters and Windjammer's success in keeping (most of) New England and the North-East in line for the Dems resulted in a narrow victory for the Democratic ticket.

Former Senator TNF (D-KY)/Congressman Windjammer (D-VT) 300 electoral votes
Former Governor Goldwater (R-WA)/Governor Cathcon (R-MI) 238

Governor Cathcon (R-MI)/Senator Goldwater (R-WA) - 269 EVs
Senator TNF (D-KY)/Governor Adam C. FitzGerald (D-OH) - 269 EVs

As TNF decides to run as a Democrat rather than a Socialist, TNF/Adam C. FitzGerald manage to grab the appeal of a lot of voters including in the south after running on a record of progressive ideals while instigating that Cathcon is too far right to be president. On the other hand, Cathcon/Goldwater do well in their own states and in the midwest resulting in an electoral tie. The GOP House chooses Cathcon to be President and the Democratic controlled Senate chooses Adam C. FitzGerald to be VP.

1896:  The Democrat ticket combines its populist wing in TNF and its more conservative wing in shua.  The Republicans take a gamble with their base in nominating a Catholic candidate from the Midwest (but one who gets along well in Northeast WASPish circles), and choose Goldwater as VP.
Major themes of the campaign include labor rights, gold vs. silver, and imperialism.

Cathcon (R-MI) / Goldwater (R-WA) - 245

2020 Presidential Election

Ohio Senator Adam Fitzgerald (D-OH) and Kentucky Secretary of State TNF (D-KY)
Virginia Rep. Shua (CI-VA) and Wisconsin Governor ElectionsGuy (CI-WI)

Fitzgerald/TNF: 267
Shua/ElectionsGuy: 271

A very close and odd election. After the republican party death, the conservatives nominated the moderate Virginian who they knew could win, and he won the nomination of the newly formed conservative independent party. Although there was backlash among conservative groups that shua wasn't conservative enough. Knowing this, shua strategically picks Wisconsin Governor ElectionsGuy as his VP. Similarly on the other side of the spectrum, the democratic party nominates establishment Ohio Senator Adam Fitzgerald. And while not moderate, he didn't exactly impress the revolutionary left too well. He ends up picking Kentucky Secretary of State TNF to fulfill their wishes.

Part of the reason the republican party died, is because the country started to lack any sense of social conservatism. Shua and ElectionsGuy end up running more on a libertarian platform. The libertarian party still exists however, but the conservative independent party is just more similar than the republican party was. This sparked a realignment (as seen by the map) of states and parties. Parts of the South started to crack for the conservatives, and parts of the Midwest and west started to crack for the liberals. All in all, a very close and polarizing election, but Shua barely pulls it out (wins by 0.3% in PV) over Fitzgerald.

(Don't take this scenario too seriously!)

1960

Vice President Oldiesfreak1854 won the Republican nomination fairly easily, placating the conservative wing of the party by picking Senator ElectionsGuy of Wisconsin. The Republican platform, in an effort to hold the gains Eisenhower had made with African-American voters, took a hard stance on civil rights and a more moderate tone on bread-and-butter issues. The Democrats nominated Kentuckian TNF, a labor ally and Alben Barkley protege. Hoping to double down on his proposed "Great Society", he picked the young Pennsylvanian Snowstalker, who he hoped could keep Northeastern Catholics on his side and bolster his anti-communist credentials (despite having been born in the United States, Snowstalker was of Cuban descent and supported a hard line against the new Castro regime, at least publicly). Despite the Democratic ticket not being ideal for moderate voters and worries from the Southern wing about the ticket's endorsement of civil rights legislation, TNF's charismatic, populist speaking style handed him a strong victory in the first television debates against Oldiesfreak, which combined with a massive labor GOTV effort, handed him a narrow victory.

1968 Presidential Election:

Governor Oldiesfreak1854 (R-MI)/Senator ElectionsGuy (R-WI) - 284 EVs
Senator Snowstalker (D-PA)/Governor Adam C. FitzGerald (D-OH) - 254 EVs

Dixie ultimately costs the Democrats in the race the election. Despite unpopularity of the War in Vietnam and an outgoing incumbent Democratic President, Snowstalker and A. FitzGerald become doves on foreign policy promising a full withdrawal of U.S. troops from Vietnam and remain competitive up north while holding a number of southern states. However, still angry over the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the deep south turns against the social Democrats and turn to the more socially conservative Republican Governor of Michigan, Oldiesfreak.
