If I had to guess, I would probably say Southern whites, but not by much.  James G. Blaine had Irish Catholic ancestry and was thought to be able to make inroads with them in 1884 (at least until one of his supporters referred to Democrats as the party of "rum, romanism, and rebellion.") 

The more the Republican Party changes, the more it stays the same.  It really ought to do better among minorities than it does, but then some Republicans make some remarks guaranteed to PO the very people the GOP is trying to reach out to.

Oftentimes I get the sense that there's a rather...sadistic side to some of them.

Far more, though, fall into the camp of making those who receive the death penalty an "Other" (dehumanization) so as to absolve themselves of any social responsibility for the horrible crimes that those who receive capital punishment commit.

Snowstalker's "serious" posts are some of the most vapid, shallow affected garbage I've had the misfortune to read. He's genuinely turned into one of the worst, certainly one of the most insufferable, regular posters on the forum - to the extent that I'm nostalgic for old racist/sexist "Blue Dog" Snowstalker.

The only advantage in knowledge that the vast majority of potential responders have to you is having read wikipedia articles. You can quickly make up this possible gap by going there yourself, reading about the desired subject, and applying that to your other thoughts.
