Seriously?  PPP exaggerates Dem numbers early on.  They may be accurate toward the end of a campaign, but they overstate Democrat percentages early in the campaign.  I remember last summer seeing polls of the presidential campaign in several states that had Obama leading by a couple points, while PPP had polls with the same sample type in the same states that had Obama leading by almost double digits.
Oldies dawg, are you sure you're not a little drunk right now? Did they get you a little tipsy at the local meeting of the Black Republicans again? I think you may be a bit confused. I believe you really mean Rasmussen overstates Republican percentages early on.

PPP over-predicts Democratic chances in a state that Democrats haven't abandoned in an election but eventually abandons. It does much the same for Republicans. Such is to be expected.

Tomorrow is July 1st - the day Perry said he would make his intentions known by. He probably assumed the Legislature would have adjourned by now. Now he's in the position of possibly becoming a lame duck the same day he is trying to force through controversial abortion legislation.

Presumably he'll now wait until after the second special session is over

Unless there's something other than abortion on the agenda for the special session, does it matter if Perry is a duck or not?  (He's been lame for quite some time already.)

^Perry's also put transportation and juvenile justice on the agenda, which were both bills that didn't make it out of the first special session due to the SB5 fight last Monday/Tuesday. Presumably he'll try to get the abortion legislation passed first.

I just saw a post on my Facebook newsfeed from a conservative, politically-connected friend saying that he got a fundraising letter from Rick Perry's gubernatorial campaign yesterday. Not sure if this means Rick isn't going anywhere or that he's just trying to wring as much money out of people as possible before he bows out.

Maybe it's a decoy tactic to raise money for future plans.

There are a number of rumors going around. There's even one that he will be the Chancellor of the University of Texas system, which would be hilarious until we realized he wasn't joking.

Burnt Orange Report has the main rumors:

  • Rick Perry will replace Wayne Lapierre as VP of the NRA.
  • Rick Perry will head a conservative "think tank".
  • Rick Perry will announce a book deal.
  • Rick Perry will unveil a new charity.
  • Rick Perry will lead a Super PAC to recruit and elect conservative candidates.

I think I know what he'll do. He'll finally come out with his partner Ricky.

Oh great. Now Texas will have a governor that said this: "I go into the office, I sue the federal government and I go home"

Last fall, the Associated Press tallied two dozen: Abbott "has filed 24 lawsuits against the federal government since Obama took office — litigation that has cost the state $2.58 million and more than 14,113 hours spent by staff and state lawyers working those cases,"

I only wish. If she does change her mind and run, I can only pray Abbott turns into a gaffe machine.

My assumption was that her calculus was she'd run against Perry but not Abbott. Abbott has a lot less baggage.

Are you sure Abbott will win the primaries?

I think he has a fairly ginormous cash advantage, but given the 2012 senate primary, something unexpected could certainly happen.

Well he's certainly not David Dewhurst.

I think Abbott loses if he draws a Tea Party challenger, however Wendy Davis isn't going to win this year... Maybe 2018 but not this year...

Someone should poll Abbott vs Cruz.

Why Cruz? A generic tea partier at the height of popularity? Because Cruz certainly isn't going to run for Governor, right?

Bye-bye Perry!  Let's hope he stays out in 2016.
