The one thread was requested to be more of a remembrance of Lautenberg. The other two respectively deal with who should and who will be appointed. Let's use this to discuss the race itself.

The Special is October 16th. The Primary is August 13th.

Word is that Pallone and probably Holt are in on the Dem side. Booker is obviously in but I don't believe he has made that official. On the GOP side, perennial candidate Steve Lonegan is circulating petitions. This is where it gets interesting: petitions are due on Monday, June 10th. That leaves only four days to gather one thousand signatures. Let the games begin.

There are rumors of Pascrell getting in as well, but I think he'll stay out in the end.

There is not a Republican who is going to beat Cory Booker (besides Christie, who is going to run for re-election for Governor), so whats your point?

I know that quite well. But a decent showing from respectable candidate is much preferable to me then a landslide loss by running of idiot.

Yeah, they would need Clifford Case for that, and they don't have anyone like him now..

I'd say Booker has the nomination more or less locked up, which is a bit sad. Rush Holt would be a great addition to the Senate.

Yeah, the party should simply skip the election because it's unwinneable Roll Eyes

Maybe on your planet.

A party that does not seriously contest elections, or worse does not even put up counting candidates, damages its activist networks and its supporters' support, which will come back to haunt them when the opportunity to contest arises again. As umpteen state parties could tell you from personal experience.
Not contesting certain elections makes an incredible lot of sense to individual strong candidates the way the parties are set up in the US (and to a lesser degree in most other setups really), but little or no sense for the parties.

Well, i am a person, not a party. So - it makes perfect sense to ME, and that's what i express here))). As i said - i viscerally dislike to lose, so if a party wants simply to run a person for the sake of running - it must find a different type of person. It's THAT simple)))

And that's the ballgame. He'll be vetted by the voters in the primary and general, win this year and next, and be in the Senate until he runs for President. Which I doubt will be 2016.

Sen. Bill Bradley introduced Mayor Booker and endorsed him today. Pretty good roll out.

what agreement?

The one that landed Christie a general election opponent that has literally no support from her state party.

Oliver is running, and Booker got Stack's endorsement. So a 4-way Dem primary.

The last time I saw Sheila Oliver, she had a very significant and noticeable mustache.
