As was Henry Clay when he first entered the Senate. The mark of a true statesman if I don't say so myself.

For what purpose, given that he has zero chance of winning the primary, much less the general?

I don't know much about Mike Assad, but he just looks like the kind of person who'd completely turn me off of campus politics. Is it bad to judge a book by its cover?

Well, it's relevant because I would guess he thrived on being some Young Republican handshaker who now thinks he can cash in on his schmoozing. I'm sorry to be cynical and rude, but I really hate that type of inauthenticity. It's why I hate politicians like Jason Kenney and Pierre Poilievre over here in Canada. I know everyone does it, but I guess I can see through some people more than others. With these types, it seems like they're only in it for themselves. It just rubs me the wrong way. I'm sort of a low-information voter in that respect.

Oh well.

Huh? You admit that you don't know him then go on to give a totally wrong analysis (which you start by saying "I guess...") of the guy. Talk about arrogance. You're going to call him a "Young Republican handshaker" that wants to "cash in on his schmoozing" and label him inauthentic? Saying he's only in it for himself? Remind me again...you don't know much about him, right? You're right about one thing though: you're very low information. Quit while you're ahead next time. In the future, I won't need to judge you by your cover.

I said I was judging a book by its cover, in much the same way you and other folks around here do for most politicians. If you're a public figure, perception matters. I was giving my perception. I'm not going to exempt someone just because they posted on this forum.

His posting on the Forum doesn't exempt him from fair analysis but it seemed like your commentary was deeper than just what you think he looks like and would be perceived to be by the electorate.

You also said asked if it was bad to judge a book by its cover which tells me you weren't just giving an honest, constructive take on how he looks but were formulating your feelings on him based off of the very, very little you know.

He never said he was giving a constructive or honest look at Mike Assad, to be fair.
