I only speak English, but I plan on learning Spanish.  After that, Portuguese or Italian might be a good third language to learn.

What languages do you speak fluently?

English is my native language.  I can speak standard German and Chinese reasonably well.  I can speak enough Japanese to get by when I'm in the country.  I can read and chant Sanskrit, but not too many people have conversations with it anymore.  Smiley

Those are my best languages.  I can read some Latin and French, but am not at all proficient at them.  I'd like to learn Spanish at some point, but realistically speaking, I might not have the time or energy to do it.

You can also mention languages that you know a little of, or languages that you would like to or plan to learn.

Only English fluently. Have mediocre Spanish (i.e. Good in one-on-one conversations but useless at anything more complicated) and would like to learn Portuguese.

Fluently speak English, speak German at the level that a third grader might. I would like to learn Finnish, Japanese and/or French.

I think it's a really pretty language and I absolutely love Finland.

English (o/c), took 9 years of Spanish, 1 year of Arabic, 1 year of Turkish.  But that's not all that relevant. [/linguist] [oh wait that never happens]

It would be great if I knew Finnish.  But it has about fifteen noun cases!!  That's enough to scare me far away.  Sad

I took a lot of French and German in school, but it's been quite a while. Not much chance to use either, unfortunately.

English, poorly, and I can make a passable attempt at reading French but don't have a hope of speaking it. I was forced to study Irish for about 14 years but it's an awful abomination of a made-up language and I'm happy I haven't written, read or spoken a word of it since leaving school.
